Shelton odd man out in Texas?

The Rangers are planning to activate Hank Blalock from the disabled list Tuesday before opening a three-game series at Houston, and someone will have to be moved to make room for the first baseman. Chris Shelton appears to be the odd man out. The Rangers won't carry three first basemen, and he's hitting only .219. He's also out of options. The plan is that Blalock will play nine innings today for Triple A Oklahoma after playing five Saturday and seven Sunday.

When Chris Shelton had his monster April for the Tigers in 06, my family got a puppy, and I named him "Shelton" over the protests of my wife and sons. I guess they were right. DOH! At least the dog turned out to be good. I feel bad for Chris, as he seems like a good guy.

truly a sad day in baseball. we all got to live vicariously through this guy when he stormed on to the scene. hope he's got something to fall back on.

this guy had his fun in the sun. now he can go open a baseball academy somewhere and wow his students with his spring of 06' stories.

What happened to Shelton. The guy lit up every pitch he saw a few years back then a couple months later fell off the face of the baseball planet. He ran outta steroidal juice??

Shelton was a temporary measure at best at first as is Blalock. There are guys who will be pushing from the minors soon. The best Shelton could have done was to hit well enough to be DH.

Blalock could be another big bat or trade bait for the Rangers. If this team gets a little more pitching, watch out.

SHELTON KILLED HIMSELF,when he lost focus on hitting line drives, and started to try hitting homers. he was doing so great in detroit too. until that 11 homer in april(06) came along. too bad! i really thought he would challange for a few batting titles. dam i really liked this guy.well he's still a millionaire i guess.hope he gets a chance and bounces back.

this team had pitching (in volquez)...the guy they have been looking for since N Ryan left and what do they do? trade him for hitting.

in fairness the rangers gave volquez show time in 05 & 06 he didn't pan out. and crackhead or not j hamilton hits a ton. good trade for both teams. but i have to agree that i'd take good pitching over good hitting anyday

June 23, 2008  05:32 PM ET

You're right, Everugly, but the trade is currently working out for both teams.
Volquez is perhaps the Cy Young winner thus far, and Hamilton may be the MVP so far.
