Warriors may move Harrington

If the Warriors let their exception expire and still want to add a big name without increasing payroll - Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Shawn Marion, Richard Jefferson and Michael Redd also are likely to be on the block, albeit at heftier prices - then Al Harrington could be the player most likely to move. The Warriors simply don't have many tradeable assets if they are committed to keeping Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins and Wright. Baron Davis is the franchise player. Mickael Pietrus and Matt Barnes are unrestricted free agents and thus available to any bidder. Stephen Jackson is coming off a brilliant season, but is still too risky for most GMs. That leaves Harrington, who will make a little more than $9 million next season, as a natural trade chip. The 6-foot-9 forward never made a big deal about riding coach Don Nelson's roller coaster last season, but clearly felt he was underutilized - a multi-dimensional big man often reduced to being a three-point shooter and scape-goat for the Warriors' rebounding deficiencies.

Al Harrington is good for the Warriors. It would be a big mistake to trade him.
The Warriors need _more_ big men, not fewer. They should add another big man to complement Harrington.
They should trade one of their undersized players and keep the big guys.

they need a lot of work to compete in the west, or move to the east where they reach the playoffs with their record.

i like this guys game. works hard on the blocks on both ends. warriors should definitely keep him if they want to try and make any real noise in the west

He's a nobody.........
Career 13 pt per game scorer

No way you give him any big $
he's a mid-level exemption player

He could be a bargain. No way he deserves big money, but at the right price he could be a big piece of a really good team.

____________________________________________________ Let me see you score 13 pts per game in the NBA.... as far as i know points aren't the only thing that matter in basketball....he's getting 6 rbds a game 2 assists and almost a steal per game

"as far as i know points aren't the only thing that matter in basketball....he's getting 6 rbds a game 2 assists and almost a steal per game"

I TOTALLY agree with your premise - stats are NOT the measure of a player....
HOWEVER......if you've actually watched him play-
you would know that he is NOT a good defender,
his shooting #'s are Awful and have DECLINED
he is a PIG and not a 'team' player

The Warriors need to go find Chris Taft and see if he is healthy. They need someone who can play defense.

June 23, 2008  11:59 AM ET

The Warriors should aggressively go after a center this off-season. With the top half of the draft looking to add a point guard, there will be a few 7 footers available in the second half of the 1st round. It would be a mistake to let Harrington go. The nucleus of this team should be kept intact. The team is one center away.

Well take him

June 23, 2008  12:25 PM ET

They do not have to trade Harrington but if it helps them finally bring in that low post scorer that they need, then do it.

June 23, 2008  12:39 PM ET

their doing fine with Harrington, they should get rid of Andris and someone else for a decent post scorer tho he did show his low post game potential near the end of the season...

Like any Donn Nelson team all they need is to play defense. Offense is no problem.

June 23, 2008  01:43 PM ET

The Warriors should go after Rasheed Wallace, as crazy as it might seem.

June 23, 2008  01:54 PM ET

get jermaine oneal there

Al Harrington is like Lamar Odom vol. 2. All the talent none of the heart. He certainly got a big enough contract though. If kinda feel bad for the next team that's duped into paying this guy big money. Actually a trade for Harrington and Odom straight up, with throw ins for salary cap purposes may help both teams. Maybe change of scenery will do him good. Although it didn't help him in Atlanta, Indiana (the second time), nor Golden State. Maybe 4th times a charm for this Charmer.

I think Harrington should go to the Knicks for Renaldo Balkman, and Eddy Curry. Then the Knicks should trade their Number 6 pick, Zach Randolph, and Nate Robinson to the Seattle Supersonics for their 4th and 24th pick in the draft. Then draft either O.J. Mayo or Jerryd Bayless with this pick and draft Javale Mcgee with the 24th pick.

Then Mike D'Antoni will have a starting lineup of...

C-Al Harrington
PF-David Lee
SF-Quentin Richardson
SG-Jamal Crawford
PG- Jerryd Bayless

Too bad the Warriors couldn't make a play for Josh Smith. He'd a be a perfect fit -- athletic, can rebound & block shots, run, finish & hit threes. He's like the All-Star version of Harrington.
