Shaq rips Kobe in latest freestyle rap

The NBA Finals sputtered out a week ago, failing to live up to past Lakers and Celtics lore. Leave it to Shaquille O'Neal, part-time center, part-time rapper, to pick up the pieces -- or the microphone -- and poke and prod at the embers of a feud with Kobe Bryant that had all but died out some time ago. "You know how I be. Last week Kobe couldn't do without me," O'Neal freestyle-rapped Sunday at a New York nightclub in footage shown on TMZ.com. The reference? To the Lakers and Bryant losing the Finals, still without a championship since O'Neal was traded from the team four years ago, while O'Neal picked up his fourth ring in 2006 with Miami. The italicized comments are some of the tamer and printable remarks in an obscenity-laced two-minute verse. By late Monday, O'Neal appeared to be backtracking from his remarks. Efforts to reach Bryant's and O'Neal's representatives were unsuccessful. However, O'Neal did tell ESPN.com: "It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever . . . I'm totally cool with Kobe. No issue at all."

Truth hurts.

Maybe Kobe couldn't get past the Finals without Shaq, but look at how the Suns did _with_ Shaq.
That's the missing line from his rap.
"You know how I be. Last week, Kobe couldn't do without me.
But the Suns paid a large fee. With me, they were hobbled, don't you see?"
Of course, it's all for fun anyway.
"For the NBA, no need to weep. Even the losers get millions to keep.
They don't go hungry, nor need to count sheep. While others must worry, they easily sleep."

Who is that gentleman standing next to Mr.O'Neal?
I haven't heard of Kimbo Slice. Is he a rap artist?

June 24, 2008  08:01 AM ET

I know there is going to be a big backlash from the Kobe lovers. But it hurts the most when somebody fires back especially when it's true. Shaq has probably waited too long to actually get back at Kobe in a fun way after he has been called a slow, fat, uninspired player by Kobe.

June 24, 2008  08:03 AM ET

This has become an individual war between Kobe and Shaq. Kobe will be back and won't forget this rap. He will get back at Shaq in next season's games.

June 24, 2008  08:05 AM ET

Shaq putting Kobe on blast how funny.

June 24, 2008  08:05 AM ET

This for sure even though in fun has started a fire again.

June 24, 2008  08:05 AM ET

no harm in a lil bit of needling from the big bufoon we all call shaq. i think the kobe faithful will take more offense than kobe has or will.

June 24, 2008  08:11 AM ET

GuamBaller - with the Olympics coming up, and then next season, with the Lakers trying to duplicate what they did this year and make it all the way through the Playoffs again, do you really think Kobe will care about a silly little rhyme?
Get serious.
I'm sure that while he's on the plane to Beijing, with the rest of Team USA, in all that excitement, he'll be fuming over Shaq's drunken rap.

Jay L

You just answered your own question. Get serious after saying he wouldn't care then all of a sudden you say he will be fuming. That does not make sense. Can you read first before you answer?

June 24, 2008  08:17 AM ET

This rap will make Kobe stronger and will give him an edge. He will use this rap to go over the hump.

June 24, 2008  08:17 AM ET

Hehe. Oh boy. Guam Baller, you're hopeless. :)

June 24, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Jay L.

At least I make sense.

June 24, 2008  08:32 AM ET

Hey Jay L... if you're serious about not knowing who Kimbo Slice is.... he's a street fighter, now an MMA fighter in Elite XC... go google his name, you'll see his fights, and his one loss to Sean Gannon. Watching all of his fights will take roughly 5 minutes... with 4 minutes of that the videos loading, if you dig.

June 24, 2008  08:52 AM ET

Guam Baller, I see you're just another in the scores of brainless Kobe Bryant haters.

Let's take Kobe and Shaq and substitute them with just two nameless people: You'd say the guy in Shaq's place was wrong and needs to let it go. Because you are riding Kobe's nutts so hard you suspend your natural sense of right and wrong and slurp on Shaq's nutts a little. You are the definition of a hater and groupie..

This was wrong, point blank. Had Shaq and Kobe not reconciled it would still be wrong. When is Shaq going to grow up and be a man? Since Shaq wants to air dirty laundry why didn't he get all lyrical about how his golddigger wife was pilfering his money into her own account, getting ready for a divorce? How about how his wife wants to get paid like a real mother yet Shaq spends 300,000 dollars a year for babysitting?

Let's put all biases aside, anyone with half a brain knows Shaq was wrong. If you feel otherwise, you're a follower, a loser and a hater. The only person who may even have a credible reason to dislike Kobe is Shaq, not all of you stumps in here. Kobe never did anything to you guys. Has he been a jerk? Yes Is he and can he be arrogant? Absolutely

There are some real jealous insecure people in this world, some reside in fan nation and others play center for the Suns and get bounced in the first round.

June 24, 2008  08:54 AM ET

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there another part of the "rap" ...something baout "how's my ***** taste"?

June 24, 2008  08:56 AM ET

Grow up Shaq!! I hope Kobe is man enough to handle this with dignity. The Lakers management made the right decision in keeping Kobe if one HAD to go. I like Kobe's chances of winning a ring much better than those of Shaq in the future.

Shaq said he didn't mean any harm, will my friend I don't buy it. COM' on Shaq you're better than that.

June 24, 2008  08:56 AM ET

I thought it was funny and supposed to be taken in jest. I just think the media is going to blow this thing up because of their "feud".

The only problem I had with Shaq was that for an MC he was pathetic in trying to ride the beat. He was all over the place.
