With the NHL draft over, Senators GM Bryan Murray needs a backup plan. With goaltender Ray Emery officially gone after clearing waivers on Saturday, Murray is expected to bring a goalie to stand behind No. 1 Martin Gerber next season. Two viable options are Pittsburgh Penguins' unrestricted free agent Ty Conklin and Edmonton Oilers' Dwayne Roloson.

Yeah, sure! Ty Conklin will lead the Sens to the Stanley Cup! Dream on!

Dwayne Roloson on the other hand ....! The question is, will Roloson agree to a back up role to Gerber? I mean, if he's going to be a back up, might as well stay in Edmonton where he already has that job!

DCrusier,
you're absolutely right at the point concerning Roloson's job. But the Sens are a far better team than the Oilers and with the departure of Emery and Redden they seem to have straightened out their most urgent locker room issues. If they spend money wisely, they may be a real contender again.

Roloson will help the Sens and the Oilers don't need him. A trade is a real possibility here. The Oil have two young goalies looking to fight it out for a back up role (Dubnik and Deslauriers).

Sebators looking for goalie?
I bet that headline just leapt off the page at Mr. Gerber this morning!

Its been the same headline since 96. They keep adding backups hoping they'll magically post Vezina numbers. There aren't many options for UFA goalies. If they were smart they'd go after Huet before the Caps lock him up... Roloson hahaha

It's kind of funny that this is news. Isn't almost EVERY team looking for a goalie? That's like saying a baseball team is "looking for left handed pitching"

wow.. thats a shock... sens looking for a goalie.... whatever goalie they end up with will have a shot at being the starter.... ever watch gerber play.... scary big rebounds... i think he would get replaced by a good backup....

June 24, 2008  11:46 AM ET

kolzig?

June 24, 2008  12:05 PM ET

kolzig doesnt want to be the backup in washington... i doubt he would be happy with a backup role somewhere else.... but maybe he just wants a change of scenery

June 24, 2008  12:06 PM ET

They almost compleated a deal for Roli with Edmonton during the Draft! They may still get it done!

June 24, 2008  12:11 PM ET

DCruiser, you sound almost excited at the prospect of Roloson leaving us!

June 24, 2008  12:34 PM ET

give it a shot

Roloson is at best a back up so no reason for Deadmonton to keep him. He should find the bench in DC just as uncomfortable as the one he's sitting on now.

It is too bad he got rammed into the goal post against Carolina. They might just have won the cup he was on such a roll then. I still blame that softy Bergeron for that play. Guy was useless as mammaries on a bull and then takes his own goalie out....

June 24, 2008  04:57 PM ET

Sens should talk to Hasek. OR SOMEONE, JESUS!

June 24, 2008  04:58 PM ET

How is Gerber going to be the #1 next season

June 24, 2008  05:01 PM ET

Did I just confuse Ottawa with Washington??? The horror!

There is one player on Washington with more heart than the entire Senator's team!

Mike Game Over Green?

June 24, 2008  05:59 PM ET

Raycroft has just been placed on waivers by Toronto... Talk about a good move!

June 24, 2008  06:10 PM ET

They need a goalie to stand IN FRONT of Gerber, NOT BEHIND. Gerber is a weak number 1 goalie.

Nawh! I'm almost excited about the prospect we could have drafted if the deal went through! And .... I guess I am a little bit excited about the two young goalies I mentioned getting a shot to prove themselves. I think Deslauriers is pretty close now.
