Bradshaw admits using steroids as player

When Hall of Fame quarterback turned broadcaster Terry Bradshaw disclosed last week that he used steroids as a Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback, it was unclear whether he was referring to corticosteroids or anabolic steroids, two very different categories of drugs. In a freewheeling radio interview with Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick last week, Bradshaw said he used steroids for healing purposes as a member of the vaunted Steeler teams of the 1970s, and that a doctor administered the injections. "We did steroids to get away the aches and the speed of healing," Bradshaw said. "My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and thought nothing of it. It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn't to get bigger and stronger and faster." Bradshaw said the medical care in the years he played in the NFL was less than stellar and that a recent MRI revealed two broken vertebrae he was unaware of.

It spunds good and it gets his face back on the news. Who cares? Everyone is using steroids. Your mother is taking birth control and your father is taking some sort of - helper. Bradshaw should have shut-up, but at least he is not nappy-headed and bald - which would be much worse than just being bald.

If you were to take a survey of Hall Of Famers from the NFL with no names attached, I'm willing to bet you find a great deal of them took steroids

June 24, 2008  07:00 AM ET

EVERBODY did. That was the way they got athletes healed back in the 70s and 80s. Even on small town teams. Most of them just got what the doc shot them to heal and play sooner. I mean come on, Bradshaw was never a "big" guy, or fast.

As Hollywood Henderson said it sure wasn't used to help spell cat. this is no news everyone knew all teams including the Steelers used roids. He is not exactly an Adonis with out his shirt even in his playing years. the broken vertebrae, well those must have hurt.

June 24, 2008  07:41 AM ET

Why in the h*ll would he say ANYTHING?!? No one questioned him... no one thought he used either of the type... why possibly taint it?

Dumb a*s

Bradshaw: "We did steroids to get away the aches" ....... "My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, ...."

Why! Isn't that the reason people get drunk, smoke the weeds, snort cocaine, pop uppers and downers and stuff?

TAKE THE RINGS AWAY!

June 24, 2008  08:12 AM ET

It has been said that the Steelers teams of the 70's widely used performance enhancers and that the cardiac related deaths of their players from that era can be attributed directly to that abuse. Mr. Bradshaw is making me think that those accusations are true.

The media is trying to blow this story up so they will have something to talk about.

RODNEYKM is right on.....this is a non-story. MILLIONS of Americans have taken steroids for healing purposes......just like Bradshaw.

June 24, 2008  08:53 AM ET

But Terry is so stupid, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know the difference between costicosteroids and anabolics. Great quarterback, but no one was ever intimidated by his mental prowess.

Spell a three letter word for feline, localboy54. I'll spot you the "c" & the "t".

June 24, 2008  09:02 AM ET

Yep. Non story. Everybody used stuff back then, some used stuff that has already put them six feet under. Only the Steeler bashers will find any interest in this story and their opinions are worth bubkus.

June 24, 2008  09:12 AM ET

If Bradshaw took roids for body enhancement, which he didn't, then he should ask for his money back. :)

They can't stand their life, sad but true.

June 24, 2008  09:56 AM ET

Wake up, they've been used in sports since the late 50's early 60's, baseball, football, everything... Lebron is the HGH posterboy, they are everywhere, Hammerin Hank had his hands in ampheds, LT shoved everything up his nose he could find, Athletes do whatever it takes to perform at their peak, the playing field is level all the time... Look at Big Brown, they just said they would stop injecting the f'n horse with Winny... are you kidding? they are probably shooting up the greyhounds at the dog track too... except it and let it go

Would somebody please explain to me just what the hell the term "nappy-headed" means? I had never even heard that until the whole Imus thing, and now that I hear it again, I wanna know.

June 24, 2008  10:23 AM ET

Explains why his married life was always a train-wreck.

June 24, 2008  10:28 AM ET

He should be admitting to using Rogaine, not steroids
