Wie discusses horrible '07 showing

She has come back, which sure beats going back, as far as Michelle Wie is concerned. "We'll just skip last year, that would be safe to say," said the onetime child phenom, who at the tender age of 18 could hardly be considered to be rejuvenating a career. "Last year is all very fuzzy with details about my wrist," said Wie. But on two fronts she is adamant. One, "I was in no condition to play and I don't know what I was thinking." And two, "Everybody told me not to play." Having attended Stanford for a freshman year that was "everything that I expected - and a lot more," Wie has given her wrist plenty of time to rest, and her performances have markedly improved. In four tournaments, she has made three cuts, including a T-24 at the Wegmans LPGA in Rochester, N.Y., last week. But most of all, there was that qualifier a few weeks ago. When she required a mere 137 strokes to play 36 holes at Woodmont CC in Rockville, Md., three weeks ago, Wie punched a ticket into her sixth US Women's Open.

She is very pretty.

June 25, 2008  06:50 AM ET

Pretty boring.

She is no longer the teen phenom she was hyped to be as there are younger women on tour who have actually played better --- and finished higher. Wie is Over hyped and overrated. If she is smart, she will just be quiet and play golf ---and if she is stupid enough to play in a mens tournament again before she has a dozen or so wins on the LPGA Tour, then she will have cooked an otherwise promising career. Currently she is not in the top 3 female golfers aged 18 or younger.

Give her time, she'll be trying to compete with the boys soon enough!

Wie can play,
She'll play someday,
'gainst men and then,
She'll win.

She's not that attractive. She looks like she's been hit in the grill with a sackful of nickels.

I'm amazed that she is still just 18. seems like she's been around forever. I guess that's what happens when you start playing at 12.

I'm always thrown off when a tennis player announces her retirement. You think of this old lady and then you read the article and she's 23.

"onetime child phenom"?!? Puh-leese. She quit multiple LPGA tournaments to keep from being so far off the pace that she'd be suspended. The men's tourneys she played in were glorified publicity stunts.

I agree, Pathetic. She could eat corn off the cob through a picket fence.

June 25, 2008  05:55 PM ET

C'mon Petey, who is she going to beat? Do you really think she could ever win a men's tournament?

June 25, 2008  07:50 PM ET

A Wie showing is never 'horrible'. Very attractive she is.

June 25, 2008  09:24 PM ET

She's still a teenager, leave her alone. Again, how many of you yahoos can play at her level?

I'm exercising my God given right under the Constitution to critique her, and all professional athletes. If we don't, it's like letting the terrorists win!
