Manuel threatens drastic changes

Jerry Manuel has seen enough. The Mets need to start winning often - or else he'll have to consider making some dramatic moves. pronounced the Mets a flat-out "bad offensive club" and declared there could be radical changes if the team doesn't start putting up. "We have to find a consistent formula at some point," Manuel said. "We have not found that yet. But I believe we can. It could mean some tough decisions." And those decisions could be drastic. "It could be lineup changes. It could be rotation changes. It could be all types of changes," said Manuel, who said the Mets were being unfair to their fans because the team was "not giving them anything." The first guy who might feel the Manuel wrath is Oliver Perez, who was abysmal in getting smashed for six runs (five earned). Manuel hinted was possible the lefty could be dropped from the rotation.

Yes, dump Delgrundo. Get some young meat that can run and does not get injured every 2 months. Make moves before moves make you. Freaking stupid Manuel making threats. Geez not us.....

June 25, 2008  06:02 AM ET

Manuel is saying exactly what us Mets fans have been for the last 2 months. Now we have to hope Minaya lets him do it.

SHANK EM ALL JERRY!

June 25, 2008  07:54 AM ET

Perez should be sent down. Delgado should lose his starting position and be moved to the bench (I cannot wait until his contract is up). I say do that and see what hapens.

June 25, 2008  08:28 AM ET

Manuel needs to stop threatening and start doing.

The manager thinks the fans are cow dung, and so is the the team.........what a pathetic performance against the WORST team in baseball, losing 11-0 to the wretched Mariners, the muts are god-awful..............

June 25, 2008  08:58 AM ET

I want to congratulate Omar Minaya for putting together the oldest team in baseball - they look like it. Maybe we could ask Roger to come back and pitch for us? Maybe there are some other guys who are 45+ and second-guessing retirement? We could sign them for $10 million a piece and put them on the DL. We'd have the baddest DL in baseball!!!

This team sucks.

They should contract that entire NL East. Every single team in that division is a joke. A first place team that loses 6 straight and can't take advantage of equally bad teams.

Phillies are a joke that can't pull away even if they wanted to.
Braves have zero pitching
Mets are team turmoil
Marlins can't stop anyone from scroing
Nationals just terrible.

The only healthy team in that division is Philadephia. If the Braves ever got a pitcher or the Mets straightened out, they'd run away with that division and then get their tails kicked come playoff time.

Do I smell the aroma of desperation? Or, possibly just High Karate?

This is the worst division since the '73 NL East. what a collection of crapass teams.

June 25, 2008  09:42 AM ET

Sox2004:

Surely, you are not implying that the NL East is a collective of underachieving teams that will accomplish little else but bumping into each other haphazardly?

Cuz, if you are, that's what I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 25, 2008  09:46 AM ET

The Montreal Expos have a better shot at winning that division. They should all be disqualified and add a 2nd wildcard team from either the Central or West.

The NL West? At least there are teams in the East with an above .500 record.

Did the Diamondback escape that train of thought?

June 25, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Worst Division in the league by far if the Marlins can be in first place then the division is a joke. Mets are just like the Yanks millions spent and no chamiponship. At least the Braves have the terrible excuse of saying that Andrew Jones left and thats their Offense...yeah right. Nationals at least dont make any excuses they just suck like always, at least they got future convict in Elijah Dukes

Re:
Desperation? they've long passed that stage. Now its full blown implosion mode.
-------------------------------------------------------------
You can't implode if you sucked to begin with, and this team has sucked nuts since opening day.

What they should have done was spent all those millions on young talented players with a hunger for the game instead of an over-hyped past-prime pitcher.
