Will Riley pass on Beasley for Mayo?

Miami keeps sending mixed messages. Believing Chicago will take Derrick Rose, the Heat told one NBA official that there's a good chance it will draft and keep Michael Beasley, unless something particularly enticing surfaces. There's support on Pat Riley's staff for keeping him. But the Heat told another official there remains uneasiness about Beasley's maturity (numerous people believe that's coming from Riley) and a continued fascination with O.J. Mayo. The Heat has spoken with Seattle and Memphis. But many expect Minnesota will take Mayo at No. 3 if he's available.

I think the only way miami can not take beesley is if they have another top big set up for joining miami this year!
If they have that sorted, then look to make a deal that would bring mayo. Between him and wade i think the heat would have one of the best back courts in the league for many years.
Add to that marion( (if he stays) and some sort of decent post player and the heat should be an eastern contender!

on the other side, draft beesley and look to trade for heindrick for chicago, if the bulls are going to draft rose, KH must be available!

Mayo would be much more marketable though and would sell seats for games!

two under sized shooting guards,I don't know. they need to get better so what ever they chose will help them next year.

June 25, 2008  07:40 AM ET

6'5 is that undersized for a point nor sg as shown by Dwade's ability to change a game. the only problem is that they will remain small, when at least they can have a 6'7 - 6'8 sf/pf is a little bigger. you have to keep Beasley especially when Marion may take off next season. And seriously, Wade and Lebron really do want to play with each other, so when Marion leaves, that opens up a lot of salary cap to persue Lebron and add a little to Dwade's salary. say lebron really leaves, then you have Lebron, DWade, and Beasley back at the power forward. say DWade leaves, you still have Beasley, can sign Marion or some some other big name, but with two of our stars contract years coming up, it's important to have a star player like beasley.

get real! if lebron leaves the cavs he will go to new york or new jersey!

June 25, 2008  07:49 AM ET

beasely is undersized.. for every elton brand there are more marcus pfizers. besides marion, beasely, wade, and no big.. is an undersized team. unless mourning still think that he can pull some mutombo like voodoo for another year.

this is why trading the beesley pick to trade down makes sense! beesely and marion are both SF/PF combo forwards due to their size! cant see them both playing in miami!
HEAT NEED A BIG NOT ANOTHER MIDDLE MAN!

June 25, 2008  08:19 AM ET

Mayo and DWade almost have the same game so it does not make sense to get him unless Mayo becomes the main PG. Beasley is needed more in Miami for post up and all around play.

June 25, 2008  08:26 AM ET

Mayo and Beasely have pro games ALREADY. Period. Nobody else in this draft is close. Look at the numbers, they don't lie. Don't be fooled Mayo is better than advertised. Look at what he did against the Pac-10 and in any non-conference game, except vs. Memphis early on. It's a joke, the level of talent separation beteween these two, and everyone else , including Rose, is ridiculous.

June 25, 2008  08:36 AM ET

Fire pat Riley now for even letting something this dumb even leak to the press. Draft Beasley and let him bnag the East out all the way to the playoffs. He is a better younger and cheaper version of brand that can handle the ball. Mark my words, riley is #$%^& up if he lets this kid go. Rose is going to Chicago done deal

June 25, 2008  08:38 AM ET

ASH makes sense so trade marion to Indiana with haslem.

June 25, 2008  08:58 AM ET

I rally hope this is all a smokescreen, although they may trade down and take Bayless as well. I just want Mayo to fall to the Wolves.

June 25, 2008  08:59 AM ET

I like Mayo alot!!! I think he has the ability to play both guards positions. However, it's hard to pass on B-Easy with his ability to score and rebound.

June 25, 2008  09:06 AM ET

I say get out of #2, I just think these boys will both be duds in the NBA... The player I like best behind Rose is Gordon from Indiana. That kid plays with guts...

June 25, 2008  09:18 AM ET

I agree that Mayo and Beasley are the best players in the draft.... Rose could be the best player when you look back a few years but right now he is 1 dimentional. Heat would be well served to draft and keep Beasley and see if someone will trade the rights to Mayo for Marion or another Heat player and a future draft pick. Marion and Haslmen for the #3 pick and Antoine Walker.

Heat and Riley covet forwards and always have. Every year Riley drafts a forward... looks who he keeps brining into camps as free agents... forwards. He loves to trade for Forwards. Point Forward is something Riley loves ala James Worthy. Beasley is so the pick its not even funny. If Riley was enamoured with Odom and Antoine Walker you think for one minute he is going to let a talent like Beasley go? Riley coverts Brand/Boozer... combine their game and height and you got Beasley.

June 25, 2008  09:21 AM ET

If Riley had any aptitude for spoting talent, he wouldn't have made some of the choices he's made in the past. If you're looking for a point guard, DRAFT ONE. Why risk such a high pick on a player you need to develop into what you want?

June 25, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Heater, if you think LeBron is coming to Miami you need to lay off the pipe. Look at the Heat's team. If you think LeBron doesn't have the best team around him Cleveland, then what does Miami have? I can understand your hopeful thinking about getting LeBron, but with the team in the mess it is now I can't see LeBron going there.

June 25, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Riley will not pass on Beasley unless he already has Brand or Boozer. Maybe not even then. This is smoke.

June 25, 2008  10:24 AM ET

The draft picks must be crap, because it seems nobody wants them.

June 25, 2008  10:47 AM ET

The Heat can always trade down for Mayo.
