One executive who spoke to the Heat said Miami would consider dealing Shawn Marion for a top player but also would be content allowing his contract to expire next summer and in 2009, sign Carlos Boozer, who would love to play here, or Elton Brand, if he doesn't opt out now.

why not keep marion and look to sign one of these aswell!
Marion will not get a $17-18 per year deal again, i think he will be lucky to sign for $10 per,
With the rest im sure miami could package a deal together for $10-12 mill per for brand, who seems desperate to play in miami

And im sure certain players would take a little less to play on a team including D.Wade and Beesley/Mayo, Marion and whoever!

June 25, 2008  07:12 AM ET

Pat does have some options, the only question is weather or not he'll make the right choices.

June 25, 2008  07:40 AM ET

Why not see how your Marion-Wade matchup unfolds it might be something they regret.

June 25, 2008  07:47 AM ET

i defo agree with cel.
Dwade and marion have only played a handful of games together! i the press conf for when marion came over, riley talked about a more run and gun style!
With D wade healthy and the two working together through training camp things could blow up with the addition of their big draft pick!

June 25, 2008  07:49 AM ET

i wouldn't trade a durable, athletic, quick player with the ability to defend all positions for slow, sloth-footed big players. Pat Riley's an idiot. Unfortunately he's taken away all of our talent and we don't have many players who have trade value. Another problem is Riley kept players like Ed Barron and we don't have any good bigs so we can't get rid of blount's big contract nor haslem. maybe we should just stay small because unfortunately, i don't think boozer is going to make a difference, nor will Brand unless they have decent sized power forward.

June 25, 2008  07:51 AM ET

Its a stupid move if they do trade they need someone to compliment Wade and Marion maybe Jermaine Oneal or even Al Harrington.Or draft a big man packaging Marion might not be the way to go.

June 25, 2008  07:51 AM ET

i hope miami gets punked, cleveland style, with any of these players. what riley did to van gundy is still grimey.

June 25, 2008  07:58 AM ET

"what riley did to van gundy is still grimey."

It is, but its now worked in van gundy's favour! he and the Magic have a big future together!

June 25, 2008  08:00 AM ET

i agree with cel again!
Jermaine oneal would be a good fit, it seems from other rumours that he is available for not much, TJ Ford!
Im sure the heat could package a deal including haslam, picks and other salaries together to make this happen!

Not sure about Al harrington though, think he is a similar player/size to beesely and marion!

June 25, 2008  08:21 AM ET

True that

June 25, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Boozer and Brand are almost like Beasley. Why not draft Beasly and hone his game and leadership?

June 25, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Seattle and Memphis can offer a lot of expiring contracts for next year to sign either one of those guys if they swap picks, then they can also get Bayless. In a year or two with bayless, wade, marion, boozer, and Haslem, this team could be very dangerous in the east.

O'Neal and Ford are bad investments PERIOD. The reason O'Neal has been available for almost the full season is because they've never determined a cause for his knee problems. Without a cause, there's no cure. Think about it, if O'Neal were expected to return at 100%, he wouldn't be available. The player formerly known as Jermaine O'Neal is gone. And as I said testerday, TJ Ford is one hard foul from retirement. Maybe he and O'Neal can carpool to the doctors office.

Because Marion did not opt out, the shortest contract he can sign with the heat is for four years, and league rules do not permit him signing for less than 10 % of his current salary. So you would be looking at a 4 year 15.5 mil for Marion - 30 year - old. Also - such a deal would probably hinder Miami's plans for 2009 and 2010. Best deal? Draft Beasley and shop Marion for a lottery pick- perhaps for someone 6 - 10?

June 25, 2008  09:56 AM ET

I don't understand why Miami is thinking about dealing Marion. I don't like the Matrix' personality, but he is one of the best forwards in the league and probably the best all-around defender. He and wade should be untouchable.

I really wish the Lakers make a move for him if Miami is looking to trade.

June 25, 2008  10:05 AM ET

When did Boozer ever say he wants to play for Miami? I've never heard a quote of him saying that. He's going to be in Utah for a long time, there's no way he's going to leave Deron Williams. He only lives in Miami because he grew up in Alaska.

June 25, 2008  10:30 AM ET

SLCC | 06/25/08, 10:05 AM

So he grew up in Alaska? Is that why he is a Boozer.

June 25, 2008  10:49 AM ET

Here is the dilemma I see for Miami. There are 3 legit teams that have something to offer and wants the second pick: Memphis, Seattle, and Clippers. In order for the Heat to give up that pick, they are going to have to get a point guard and at least a shooter back in return whether it's by draft or trade.

If miami trades with Clippers for Elton Brand, then they would have to give up Marion and then you are stuck with Brand and haslem hoping to trade haslem; not very likely

If miami trades with Seattle, seattle better give up jeff green and wilcox along with the pick..................i dont see seattle doing that for Beasley

If miami trades with memphis, i got to get conley and mike miller in return and memphis said they arent trading conley

If I was miami, keep the pick and draft Beasley then try to use haslem to acquire a point guard

June 25, 2008  11:23 AM ET

Did boozer really say he wanted to play in Miami, i cant find the quote anywhere.

June 25, 2008  11:26 AM ET

I think Boozer lives in Miami off season.
