Carter rips Steinbrenner, Girardi

For a guy who played the game with Hall of Fame talent and smarts, Gary Carter is saying and doing some dumb things. Talking to the L.A. Times about not getting a chance to manage in the big leagues, Carter took a big and unnecessary shot at Joe Girardi and the Steinbrenner family. "[The] pictures Joe Girardi must have on Steinbrenner," said Carter, who is managing in a California independent league. When those words were relayed to Girardi following last night's 12-3 defeat to the Pirates at PNC Park, Girardi listened without comment. Asked if he had a bad history with Carter, Girardi said he didn't. "He was always cordial and nice to me," Girardi said. When Willie Randolph's job was jeopardy in late May, Carter called a Met official to see if he should contact the Wilpon family to let them know he was interested in managing the Mets.

What a self-destructive fruitcake he's turned into this year.

He's a dip-shot. What an idiot. Why not just get on your hands and knees then beg? That is what he has been doing. You were a good catcher, sure - but you are no manager, because you would have been given your chance. You were Montreal anyway. Not a New Yorker. Buckner gave you guys the series and that is why it has been replayed forever and ever. No replays of you from that series being shown??? Get over it Gary and accept the job they give to you, because baseball is taught to pretty much every kid and anyone can coach a bunch of dudes who are on the juice. The Mets chemistry is of old and new.....not meshing, they need to dump the old and take the money hit, get some younger and more prodcutive players on the team to help the 3 good hitters. Plain and simple....get on your knees and beg. Just shut your trap you old washed-up EX-athlete.

Maybe this is why he can't find a job in the major leagues...or wait, the minor leagues. What a moron. Maybe he should talk to the Wilpons first and figure out why they even won't hire him. The stupidity of some never ceases to amaze.

he is a whiner but Girardi isn't much better...he is not a good manager

If Carter wants to be a part of every Mets game next season, I suggest he buys season tickets and a good sports satellite package.

June 25, 2008  08:34 AM ET

No one wants you Gary, get over it!

What a coincidence. When Isaiah Thomas was fired, I put in a call to the Knicks to let them know I was interested in that job - I never heard back, either. Know why? Because I'm a self-involved, projecting feckwit.
