Knicks seek swap for Mayo

The Knicks have polled NBA personnel the past few days, trying to figure out the chances of USC combo guard O.J. Mayo falling to them at six. With the chances slim, Knick president Donnie Walsh is exploring ways of swapping picks with Memphis at No. 5 or Minnesota at No. 3, according to a league source, with their goal of drafting Mayo. Walsh believes Mayo can play point guard and has deemed him the best player after Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley.

Well if they keep Isaiah after he got burned for the harrassment then they are really messed-up in the morals department and thus...God will not allow them to ever have a good team again. Now how about that?

June 25, 2008  05:33 AM ET

well if they really want him... how about crawford and the 6th pick for antione walker and the 3rd pick. then if the wolves r lucky they can draft lopez... or love. then they can package a future pick or some pieces with mccants and then they have a developing team with a proven scorer crawford.

He is an under-height SG period.

June 25, 2008  07:08 AM ET

he would be an upgrade from the talent or lack there of the team has.

June 25, 2008  07:30 AM ET

From waht I understand, the Knicks are probably going to have the 5th (via Memphis for D.Lee and Rose's expiring contract) AND the 6th they already have. This means that they can select both Mayo/Westbrook/Bayless and Gallinari.
Don't get me wrong. D'Antoni loves to run, but he also knows that dealing either Randolph or Curry (and I think the second is more likely) will be hard; he'll set 4 players to strecth the floor and play fast, while rely on the two bigs when other teams can slow NY down...

June 25, 2008  07:31 AM ET

PS: of course they won't win anything with that setting, but they just have to wait for 2010 while entarteing NY fans...

June 25, 2008  07:41 AM ET

Whas the chances of a bust?

June 25, 2008  07:47 AM ET

hold the mayo. it's funny... mets fans, yankee fans, knicks fans, jets fans... all of these myopic new yorkers think that every team is dying to take their package of crap for something of value. i mean i'm surprised they haven't started rumors of a trade with the bulls for the no 1 pick, luol deng, ben gordon, and kirk hinrich for the knicks pick, david lee, and ronaldo blackman

he's an outstanding talent but don't know if he can be the true PG that they want him to be. he looks more like a two or a shoot 1st PG

June 25, 2008  08:11 AM ET

I remember the same conversations being held when lebron came into the league!
They were tslking of him being a point guard! look how that worked out, now he's the best small forward in the league!

June 25, 2008  08:14 AM ET

Mayo is a player.. he plays defense, he shares the ball and he was the leader at USC as a freshman.

June 25, 2008  08:48 AM ET

and yet he's oozing of "me first" attitude

New York can have him. They obviously know what it takes to win a Championship. Just ask Stephon Marbury about the rings holding his fingers down.

June 25, 2008  08:49 AM ET

BTW, I'm a Chicago fan so I have to personally thank Isiah and the Knicks.

June 25, 2008  08:55 AM ET

The Knicks must forget that they already have their own O.J. Mayo already, his name is Stephon Marbury...

Seriously, maybe I'm just missing the point, I don't see Mayo winning his team a championship. You'll see 10-12 years of meaningless stats, unfulfilled playoff memories and a public divorce when the team that drafted him realizes he's not trying to win championships, he's trying to amass hollow stats.

40% shooter, pedestrian defender, won't make anybody on his team better, why would anyone but the stupid Knicks want that?

June 25, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Knicks will never get him. THey don't have the assets, just ****, to make this happen. Mephis Seattle Minnesota and Clippers are all higher and can offer more to move up to Miami's spot.

June 25, 2008  08:58 AM ET

Knicks need to move on to Plan B. Mayo to the Knicks isn't happening.

June 25, 2008  09:03 AM ET

Donnie Walsh is going to screw up too. Why wager your future on a player that may or may not work out? As far as swapping picks with Memphis or anybody else, chances are pretty slim since Walsh doesn't have anything of value to trade. What he should do is see if he can unload Curry and Randolph on some unsuspecting sucker.

June 25, 2008  09:06 AM ET

Maybe Walsh is expecting Marbury to teach him how to play the point.

June 25, 2008  10:03 AM ET

Knicks need to get out of the overpriced contracts....get some young talent, but I'm not sure Mayo is the answer...he has all ready shown with the way he handled USC that he is about Mayo...and Mayo only. Knicks have enough of those type guys all ready..
