05:34 AM ET 06.25 | Alabama linebacker Jimmy Johns was arrested on felony drug charges Tuesday and kicked off the team, the latest in a string of off-the-field problems for coach Nick Saban's squad. Johns, who moved to defense for his senior year after playing running back and receiver in 2007, was "pretty wide open" selling cocaine to students on and around the University of Alabama campus but tried to hide what he was doing from teammates, police said. Undercover officers purchased cocaine from Johns five times in the last 1 1/2 weeks, and they arrested him at a gas station near his off-campus apartment, where he lived alone. Authorities who searched the apartment found about 10 grams of cocaine and ecstasy pills. Johns was charged with distributing cocaine and possessing the pills.

Can you say "DUMB"?!?!

June 25, 2008  06:52 AM ET

Question. Why wasn't he arrested when he sold the undercover cop the first time?

June 25, 2008  06:53 AM ET

Cowboystar,

he's not dumb. He scored an unbelieveable 125 on the Sparq test for drug dealing!

It builds a much stronger case aginst him to have multiple violations, and less likely he can claim it was a mistake or a conspiracy against him. Also, if he is facing a much tougher sentence, they may be able to flip him and get him to give up his supplier.

Bear Bryant rolls in his grave......

[sarcasm] I'm sure he was just trying to make a few bucks, because college football is so unfair, and the players are so mistreated, while the colleges make so much money. [/sarcasm]

at least it makes alabama somewhat relevant. btw, i guess this "student athlete" can kiss his work study stipend away.

June 25, 2008  08:13 AM ET

Localboy,

According to Offenders.com, he wsa only a 3-star DD (drug dealer) coming out of high school, but had a lot of upside. The Alabama Penal League agrees that potential is untapped, but thinks he'll have a great showing at their Combine (aka criminal trial).

Damn, any one got a spare spoon? Just an other example of a fine outstanding thug this society is producing at a fantastic rate!

June 25, 2008  08:36 AM ET

I cant believe they immediately kicked him off the team, instead of spending a couple years "investigating the facts" while still letting him play. That's the usual procedure, especially in the disgustingly crooked SEC. The whole conference ought to be banned from existence.

June 25, 2008  08:46 AM ET

what a moron....now he can either be a snitch or a convict. you've done well for yourself.

June 25, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Sportsfan,

I think you got the SEC mixed up with USC.

June 25, 2008  09:12 AM ET

"disgustingly crooked SEC"

Really? This from a fan in DALLAS of all places. We could spend weeks discussing the exploits of Texas athletes or the ignorance of lumping every player and program in the SEC into a story on one moron. You are apparently bitter over the SEC's success. I have three words for that....GET OVER IT!

Alabama's looking to become Thug U!

June 25, 2008  09:21 AM ET

I bet they finally busted him when he bought cigarettes at the gas station!

June 25, 2008  09:37 AM ET

When he goes to Alamaba St. Correctional Facility he's gonna learn another version of what ROLL TIDE means!!!!!

KRB,

Thanks for the explanation and makes complete sense. Hopefully he won't get R kelly's jury and let him go.
