Knicks dangling Lee to move down

After early speculation that the Knicks might move up in Thursday's draft, the latest indications are that the team is in discussions to move down. According to executives with two teams, the Knicks are discussing a swap of first-round picks with Portland. The Knicks would send the No. 6 pick, forward David Lee and another player to the Trail Blazers for the 13th and 27th picks and a player, possibly Steve Blake or Jarrett Jack. (Portland is acquiring the 27th pick from New Orleans.) Lee was also reportedly dangled in a proposed trade with Memphis for the No. 5 pick, a sign that he is not part of the Knicks' long-term plans.

Move DOWN ??
I thought the previous article talked about the Knicks wanting to move UP, so that they could get a star player like the point guard OJ Mayo.
Maybe NY cannot make up its mind about moving up or down, much like the stock market that is also there in NY.

I think Lee is the only tradable asset the Knicks have right now...
But Ford and O'Neal are gone while I write and it appears that Memphis won't deal no.5 for David...
I think, if NY choses to trade down in the draft, it will be no futher than no.9 (that'd be because they believe Gallinari will be there anyway).
If I was Portland, I'd definitly agree to the deal the NY Times is reporting... What can you get at no.13? Jack isn't fitting for D'Antoni and Blake is a backup PG...

a dangling Lee...sounds like a personal problem.

The story here should be about the aggressiveness from the Portland Trail Blazers. I like the way Paul Allen is allowing his GM to hold no prisoners in achieving the ultimate goal. I give that team two years to develop into a contender. By then the Sonics will move to Oklahoma and Paul Allen can move his basketball team near his football team. The Seattle Trail Blazers that has a ring to it!

duworkson - the Seattle TrailBlazers ? Yes, I agree that it sounds nice.
First, let's see how things pan out with the city of Seattle and their Sonics.
If the two sides cannot reach a solution, and the Sonics end up getting moved, then moving the TrailBlazers is a good option. Maybe Paul Allen can extend some sympathy to Portland fans by subsidizing some trips for those fans up to Seattle now and then, so they can continue to be part of the action.

This could only work if the Blazers select a PG with the 6th pick.

I want Lee on My Squad.

June 26, 2008  08:19 AM ET

you know i don't understand this move....someone please explain it to me. what reason would the knicks have to move down to 2 lesser picks when potentially one of them may not even make the squad?? not to mention if you are going to use Lee as trade bait try to get someone proven for this guy not lesser picks. what good is that? this kid has proven to be a solid rebounder when given the opportunity. every team wants a guy like this kid.

you need talent and you get that by good drafting, (not the Knicks) or signing the right free agents, ( Marbury, Jerome James ect.. anyone ) or quality trades, ( not the Knicks either ) at this point the fans would give MARK D'Antoni some lee way.

Thats what the Knicks need to do...??? Move down! crazy

June 26, 2008  09:09 AM ET

They are NOT going to do this.

There is NO value in going up a spot or 2

June 26, 2008  09:13 AM ET

This looks like an excuse for the Knicks to take a couple of those "potential" and "upside" players without the risk of taking them high in the draft.

No, bad move

AI,

The only rationale I can think of is that they intend to mail next season in and try to clear room for King James or another monster free agent in 2009.

Remember, I said the only thing they want to be next year is "entertaining". If they do this they'll have proven me right.

By the way, I hope they prove me wrong.

I read on hoopshype, that the knicks may be trying to get the 5th, and 6th pick, and then trading both picks to move down to 2 or 3 ( there are some other moving parts in there, but thats the general idea).

Does this really surprise anybody? Once again the Knicks have no ckue. With all the garbage on this roster, they now are looking to trade the only player they can expect to do what he does every night. It's OK though. Maybe they will be lucky enough to move up in next year's lottery.

no CLUE. Sorry

What's next, having the Blazers team play for team USA?
