Rutgers football commitment fever is apparently contagious now. Wide receiver Shawney Kersey, who told Allen Wallace of SuperPrep Magazine two days ago that West Virginia was solidly entrenched as his leading college choice, abruptly changed his mind and gave Rutgers a verbal commitment last night, becoming the 18th player in the Scarlet Knights' class of 2009, according to Scout.com.

Holy crap. It does not yet equate to wins on the field for Rutgers, but is there a Big East program having even close to the recruting success that the Schiano Recruting Syndicate is right now? Should the Big 10 and SEC be worried about this now too (in terms of recruiting)?

June 26, 2008  06:51 AM ET

JoePa should name Schiano as his successor. The man is a recruiting machine.

June 26, 2008  07:24 AM ET

Wow. How in the world is Schiano doing this? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Scarlet Knight fan (its nice to see NJ get some sports notoriety besides the Devils), and I think its great. But has a mid-major EVER had this kind of success in recruiting in one year?

Rutgers has got to be seen as a contender for the next few years... maybe not this coming up season as the young guys develop, but after that its game on.

Man DUMB move now he's got to play WVU 2 times a year not smart lol jk but freal you dnt want to play WVU 2 times a year we'll get the recruits !!!!

June 26, 2008  08:16 AM ET

Wow, Coach Schiano keeps getting done at Rutgers. Hold onto him as long as you can Scarlet Knights. He is special, and, so is what he's doing there.

June 26, 2008  08:23 AM ET

RU is NOT a mid-major... They are a Big D1 school. It's just that they've sucked for so long the world forgot about them... But we're back baby!!! Jerzy Represent!!!

Who cares about WVU... They're done anyway... We have the pieces, now lets make some moves baby...

June 26, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Ok. This is now getting RIDICULOUS! Rutgers fans have to be excited.

June 26, 2008  10:23 AM ET

Seriously , I am a fan of Shiano and Rutgers, and I cant believe the moves he is pulling off. Good for all you scarlet Knight fans!

Maybe in lacrosse Spiny but they are not scheduled to play ND for the foreseeable future (except maybe in the NC game).

That comment ought to bring the ND haters out...!

This guy is a recruiting GOD. Make his contract run out like when he dies. Name the Parkway and Tunrpike after him who cares.

"Who cares about WVU... They're done anyway..." Oooooo K. Look - I'm a fan of RU, but you seem to be forgetting that WVU still has Pat White and Noel Divine when RU plays WVU this season...I wouldn't write their obit too soon! Don't forget that WVU still has verbals from Scout.com's #1 wide receiver, #2 FB and #9 QB for the class of 2009 - not to mention a slew of other great recruits. I highly doubt "they're done". Congrats to RU for a great class so far!

June 26, 2008  12:18 PM ET

Means nothing until signing day.

June 26, 2008  12:22 PM ET

Congrats to RU on their recent recruiting success. It only helps to strengthen the future of the Big East.

As for the people pronouncing WVU dead, I guess you should take a look at our team at some point this year and our recruiting class when all is said and done

June 26, 2008  12:23 PM ET

And to FanNation, it's WVU not WVA you morons

June 26, 2008  12:41 PM ET

And why would Schiano want to leave Rutgers at this point? JoPa should have done that two seasons ago
