New Duke coach David Cutcliffe, who's known for developing quarterbacks, has added two from opposite coasts to the Blue Devils' commitment list. Sean Schroeder, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound drop-back quarterback from Dana Hills High in California, chose the Blue Devils. Schroeder has a 4.0 GPA and is rated the 55th-best quarterback in the nation by scout.com Corey Gattis of Durham Hillside also has committed to Duke. He is a 5-10, 155-pound dual-threat quarterback whose athletic ability also might allow him to play other positions. Cutcliffe also secured a commitment from highly regarded defensive lineman John Drew of Northside High in Columbus, Ga. Drew, who's 6-2 and 290 pounds, is a former Georgia Tech commitment rated the nation's 34th-best defensive tackle by scout.com.

If Coach Cut keep signing quality kids like these are supposed to be, maybe Duke's days as aa complete doormat would be ending. That can only be good for the ACC as a whole. Because, truthfully, the Blue Devils have been an embarassment to the ACC for a while now.

ohh yeah that pulls alot of chicks, QB for the mighty Duke Blue Devils Football team. man bet that sells it's self.

5-10, 155. Imagine him taking a blind side hit behind a Duke offensive line.

June 26, 2008  09:57 AM ET

I have a lot of respect for Duke as an institution, it's a great school. That being said, exactly how big of a news story is landing the 55th best QB prospect, and another QB prospect who weighs 155 pounds?

Now, if you're going to play the 155 lb guy sitting on the other guy's shoulders, THAT might be a story.

155 pounds seems very light for a QB. He needs to put a lot of time in at the cafeteria and the weight room when he gets there.
Cutcliffe does have a very good record at developing QBs. Tedford at Cal gets more notoriety for it but Cutcliffe is definitely the best.

whoop-de-dooo!! duke football is pathetic. their basketball program sucks the life out of all other duke athletics. not until coach k leaves will you see a change in duke athletics. that's partially why i think coach Gail Goestenkors left a top notch women's basketball program at duke.

I hope these guys have all their affairs in order, cause it wont take long until one of thier heads is rolling on the field due to that sweeet o line at Duke

June 26, 2008  12:20 PM ET

Odds are that Gattis won't stick at QB. Not at that size, anyway.

Cutcliffe is a good coach. If Duke gives him time, its possible that he could get that school to a bowl game. It only takes 6 wins and with there being over 30 bowl games now there are enough chances out there for it to happen.

Nice grab Duke, you succesfuly took a recruit from Central Delaware Communtiy College.

ha

June 26, 2008  04:44 PM ET

They will combine for 2 wins.

June 26, 2008  04:57 PM ET

It's hard to see why people go to a college that admits that they suck more than any other 1-A team in the country.

June 26, 2008  04:57 PM ET

5-10, 155? Hell, I'd make him look small.

June 26, 2008  05:23 PM ET

"He is a 5-10, 155-pound dual-threat quarterback ..." This is a dual-oxymoron. How can anybody at that size (usually rounded up from 5' 7") and that weight (usually rounded up from 130) be any kind of a threat as QB? This from a school that has already given up on three games. I say, good luck to Cutliffe who is a hell of a good offensive coordinator.

Other than that, this is definitely in the "who cares?" neck of the woods.

6' 3", 185, Laser-rocket arm...

Localboy he's talking about the poor kid who commited to Duke

June 27, 2008  01:32 AM ET

At alot of other schools, being a double threat would mean that you could read and write!

Who's afraid of Rutgers? Its not like they have an elite program. WOW 3 winning seasons and you think nobody wants to play The Scarlet Pimpernicles. haha
