Goalie Auld on Canucks' radar
More than a dozen unrestricted free agent goaltenders are set to test the market on July 1, leaving Mike Gillis with options to lock up a backup for starter Roberto Luongo. The Vancouver Canucks general manager has not offered Curtis Sanford a contract extension, according to the backup goalie's agent, so expect the rumour mill to start churning out names. One will be Alex Auld. The former Canucks stopper is not only coming off a fine relief performance for the Boston Bruins last season -- a 12-13-5 record, 2.68 goals-against average and .907 save percentage -- the unrestricted free agent is being edged out of the crease by the fully healed Manny Fernandez and Tim Thomas.

And why did you guys let him o in the first place? Oh, yes! Deal of the decade with Florida....
How should a player feel for going from trade bait to wanted back-up.... Strange.
Auld does not stand the pressure too well, though. Gretz gave him lots of starters in Phoenix early this year, but he failed to show the guts... Did better in Boston, though. A good backup for a workhorse like Luongo, Miller, Nabokov or Brodeur...

"The former Canucks stopper is not only coming off a fine relief performance for the Boston Bruins last season ....." -- Vancouver Province
A 12-13-5 record is a "fine relief performance?" Didn't they already have a kick at this cat? And, didn't they move him because he wasn't getting it done? Only in Vancouver!

This guy is decent in a defense 1st game plan. His 1st 5 games with us he practically carried us. I would rather us keep him and trade Fernandez. BUT........oh well. Some team that plays defense 1st will be pleased.

He played 30 games last year - now you want him to go somewhere where he might play what - 10, 11 if he is lucky?? There is only so much a backup can sit out and still be productive. When will Vancovuer and New Jersey (the rotating backups continue) realize this. You shouldn't complain about the play of a back up that is lucky to see 10 games.
