Bringing James Posey back next year is just as much of a priority as the draft for the Celtics. Posey is likely to pass on the $3.4 million option for the 2008-2009 season and attract offers from any number of teams looking for a gritty defender and timely scorer with championship credentials.

Man I hope Posey stay Celtics need to resign Posey. I seen him when he was wtih the Heat, I was glad when we got him. But if he's asking for to much money then you have to let him walk as much as hate to see him go. We have a lot of needs to fill come off the bench for next season. The top two players you try to resign is Posey and House these players are the key coming off are bench.

This guy has been a proven player. He is clutch and locks down defensively. Could be the next Horry with better man to man defense. It will be hard to let this guy go. I say he is one main reason why the Celtics and Heat won the championship. His defense on individual players and his clutch and timely 3 point shooting were big keys.

They need to make Posey a priority. He was clutch defensively, and hit a ton of huge 3's for the Celts in the playoffs. We'll need his D to continue to defend guys like LeBron and Kobe in the playoffs each year.

It's going to cost $5.8 to $6 mil to keeep him next year. If the Celtics think he's worth that they should get the deal done quickly.

June 26, 2008  10:28 AM ET

I think he is worth that........ they need his defense to repeat.

June 26, 2008  11:13 AM ET

He's got rings and skillz and playoff experience. I agree, he's a keeper at $6 mil. per.

Someone should forward this thread to Pat Riley.

Big game James needs to be back in the fold next year!!!

June 26, 2008  11:59 AM ET

Power Issue for today
Celtics not as dumb as the Heat

Posey is definitely a keeper

June 26, 2008  12:08 PM ET

that should be the obvious....it is foolish to not keep him.

June 26, 2008  12:12 PM ET

Okay, I think we are all in agreement......who's gonna call Ainge to make sure he's on board?

June 26, 2008  12:29 PM ET

Mr. defensive clutch! Po-Z nuff said n e ting would want him....my heaters did!

June 26, 2008  12:30 PM ET

PO~Z iz awesome...the celtics need 2 bring himb ack next year...he iz an important bench player who iz good @ 3-point shooting and defense

June 26, 2008  12:43 PM ET

This may be a pipe dream, but a team like the Blazers could use a solid vet like Posey to guide the young pups into serious playoff contentions and shore up the SF position at the same time.

June 26, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Uh... Ditto.

Why, so he'll keep Shawn Marion?

June 26, 2008  01:39 PM ET

This is a no-brainer for Boston, why is there an article about it? The question is, do they have the $ to pay him what the market will bear? He made quite a name for himself and I am sure there will be MANY teams looking for his services.

June 26, 2008  02:21 PM ET

See how much love Posey gets. Winning a ring does a lot for your respectability. I admire what he contributed too. I agree if there is nothing better out there, then bring back Posey But lets not anoint Posey just yet. Danny Ainge has also gotten himself a little respect this year too. I think I am going to trust him to do the right thing. There is no organization greedier or more of a glutton for championships than the Celtics.

June 26, 2008  04:07 PM ET

I HOPE Boston isn't as stupid as they have been with some deals in the past. In this case, pay him his 5-6 million per year until Garnett's contract runs out. That would take them until they were 34-35? Barring injuries, that gives them the key pieces they need to remain competitive over the next few years.

They wouldn't have won it with out him this year, and won't without him next year.

C'MON C's SIGN HIM QUICK!!!

Forget that... get Robert Horry!
