Teams asking Heat about Marion

A source familiar with the situation said Wednesday night that the Heat already has received overtures from the Raptors, Pacers, Clippers and several other teams regarding Shawn Marion, who is seeking the type of lucrative extension Heat President Pat Riley appears reluctant to consider. Marion became eligible to be traded only after he allowed Tuesday's 6 p.m. opt-out deadline to pass. The timing puts him in play for a draft-night trade.

The Heat would be smart to keep Marion, let Wade and Marion gel and how ever else you bring in through the Draft if it Beasley or a FA.

While I guss I'm not the Pat Riley but you have to learn from you mistakes and add more stars and good rolpalyers around your best players.

Marion will be hard to move. Marion is overrated for his salary. $18 million year is hard to get rid of. J. Oneal would be a good trade w/ equal salary and Heat needs a center.

June 26, 2008  08:41 AM ET

overrated guy who literaly shoots from the hip. good defender though, too bad there are two sides to the court. J'Oneal has been traded to Toronto from published news reports.

The Lakers need to be contacting the Heat about Marion. One thing the finals proved is that they have a glaring hole at small forward. They need a SF that can defend and hit the three, I think Marion would be an upgrade. I'm not sure who Miami would want in return, but Farmer would have to be a part of the package.

For Elton Brand in a sign and trade..........

June 26, 2008  09:44 AM ET

I agree with Beany. The Heat should try to keep Marion for some years. He is a versatile all-around player that would complement Wade really well if given a chance to gel.
If the Heat let him go, they can get a big man in return, but they would miss out on the opportunity to put together an exciting team built around a core of Wade, Marion, and their draft pick.

For the kind of money Marion is requesting, I don't see the Heat resigning him. Marion can fit on almost any team since he can defend the 5 positions and play the 3,4, and 5 spots.

But $18 mills is way too much. I would love to see him on the Lakers, but that won't happen.

Toronto should go after him. They dont have much to package for him besides bargani and moon, and they would have major salary cap problems but who cares they would be sick(celtics would still be better because of o'neals injury problems)

PG- Calderon
SG- Parker
SF-Marion
PF- Bosh
C-O'neal

As Heat fan for 12 years, MIami should trade Marion to the Clippers for Elton Brand and the 7th overall pick. SIMPLE AS THAT. DO IT HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CLIPPERS GET- MARION

HEAT GET- BRAND AND 7 PICK

June 26, 2008  10:31 AM ET

there is no way they would get brand and their pick for marion
that would be 1 for 1 even with brand missing most of the season

June 26, 2008  10:44 AM ET

Rumor has it that Carlos Boozer will opt out of his contract with the Jazz after next season and sign with Miami, since he has a home there already. Why not trade him for Marion now and avoid the rush? Better the Jazz get something for Boozer than letting him walk, like he did with Cleveland. Salaries are comparable. Sign them both to long term deals and everyone is happy.

June 26, 2008  10:49 AM ET

trade Marion to the Clippers for Brand or to the Jazz for Boozer. Both players have almost the same salery. Forget about the future, its about NOW!!!!!!!

June 26, 2008  10:52 AM ET

A.I>

how do you have marions value rated that high. brand is a much better player than marion anyways. what would the clippers be getting in that trade.

June 26, 2008  10:53 AM ET

A.I. why dont they just trade him straight up for duncan, parker, and manu. just ridiculous talk. how about you make something that actually makes sense.

June 26, 2008  10:56 AM ET

Marion for Odom and another player to make the salary match. Straight up.

June 26, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Let me make this perfectly clear. You don't trade a player like Marion for a player that's coming back from Achilles Tendon surgery. It's highly unlikely Brand will be the same player he was before. He may even be serviceable, but not the player to gamble the future on. Having said that, Riley is an idiot in my opinion, and would probably do it.

June 26, 2008  11:05 AM ET

maybe something like a tinsley and oneil for haslem, marion, and banks would work.

June 26, 2008  11:08 AM ET

i dont know about serviceable. he played pretty good after missing basically the whole season when he came back this year.18 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast, and 2 blks agame is a little better than serviceable.

June 26, 2008  11:11 AM ET

HMM
Marion, Bosh , and now O'neal
Raptors could be the new Nuggets of the East

Very talented, but no chemistry and not well rounded. but they sure would scare the living c,r,a,p out of the east

He is good but not worth the 17.8 million that they will have to pay him.
