MLB: Willie can't coach All-Star game

Willie Randolph still might get honored at the All-Star game at Yankee Stadium for his service to the Bronx Bombers. But despite manager Clint Hurdle's wishes, Randolph will not be a member of his National League coaching staff. After discussions with the league office, Hurdle named Chicago Cubs' boss Lou Piniella to replace Randolph, who was fired by the Mets earlier this month. Hurdle had hoped to keep Randolph on his staff, something he conveyed in voice messages to Randolph after he was let go.

I didn't realize that a manager can be in nine places at the same time. It isn't the manager's fault that someone stuck out. It isn't the manager's fault that the pitcher walk someone. It take more than a manager to win a game!

By the way, if he did, what uniform would he wear? That's like saying: your fired for performance problems, but why don't you come back for the company picnic? We could use you for the three legged race...and of course coash the softball game...

June 27, 2008  10:09 AM ET

there i go again, "coach" this pick and peck typing ain't working no more...

June 27, 2008  10:19 AM ET

Why would someone who got fired be allowed to coach in the All Star game anyway? I mean come on if you win the All Star Game your league gets home field in the World Series!!! Do you want someone who couldn't control his team coaching? I mean if the Met's didn't listen to him what makes anyone think the rest of the NL would? Maybe Willie can go join Bobby V over in Japan!!!
