Russians offer Jagr $35M deal

There are apparently 35 million reasons why impending free agent Jaromir Jagr has not responded to Glen Sather's invitation to meet with him regarding a 2008-09 return to Broadway. A reliable third party source yesterday told The Post that his connections in the Czech Republic believe that Jagr has recently received a three-year contract offer for the equivalent of $35M after-tax US dollars from Omsk of the Russian Super League. The captain is believed to have received the formal offer this week from Omsk GM Anatoly Bardin after months of conversations. Jagr, who will become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, has said that his first choice is to sign a new deal with the Rangers. But Sather yesterday told The Post that he has not heard from No. 68 despite repeatedly telling Jagr's North American agent Pat Brisson, that he wants Jagr to return.

Of course! Everyone chooses the familiar to the unknown. I have friends who travel to Russia on a regular basis and they all agree that if you don't know the ropes, you are in serious trouble. Unless you know someone over there (a friend or relative) guiding and helping you, they'll eat you alive! I believe the same can be said of most countries.

As far as the rich living very well over there? Well, duh! The rich live very well everywhere! What you fail to mention is that the vast majority of Russians live in poverty. And ..... the poor ..... they don't live so well over there! In fact, the poor don't live well anywhere!

Doh sveedahneya, tohvarish Jagr!

I don't even like going south over the 49th.

And I've only done that 3 times in recent memory. And only to Washington St.

These leagues poaching Jagr and Straka while they are still technically under contract better watch out. Payback could be a beotch.

Nah, that would be the Yankees.

Listen, Bettman gave Anatoly Bardin $30 mil to make that offer. The money is coming from the projected rights Hank Steinbrenner is paying Bettman to move the Rangers out of MSG to the new Yankees stadium. You know outdoor hockey in New York is the latest trend. This is NOT a conpiracy.
