Spurrier MIA for recruit visit?

Heritage's Justin Jones will commit to Kentucky following a disappointing recruiting visit to South Carolina. "Justin went to South Carolina on Wednesday and everybody was gone," Heritage coach Chad Frazier said. "They had a [graduate assistant] showing him around campus. That's what sealed it for him." But Jones downplayed his experience in Columbia on Wednesday. "All the coaches were on vacation," he said. "I'll just try to go back in July to meet coach [Steve] Spurrier." The 6-foot-7, 240-pounds Jones, who has scholarship offers from Akron, Delaware, East Carolina, Kentucky, South Carolina and UAB, made the decision to commit to the Cats following a conversation with his mom.

Spurrier is the only coach i can think of with less class than Jim Tressell.

Report Offensive CommentSeems like someone hates OSU so much they have to talk about OSU in a thread that has nothing to do with OSU.

Report Offensive CommentIf Coach Spurrier knew the kid was going to be there, I would think that he'd have made sure he was, too. It is a little surprising. At least to me, it is. I hear rumors...amd that is all they are...that both he and the university are not all that happy with each other. Anybody else heard that?

Report Offensive CommentWasn't this the tall tight end from a few days ago? I thought Spurrier really wanted this kid.

Report Offensive CommentCommitting means absolutely nothing these days. When comes back and visits when the coaches are actually there he will sign with South Carolina. Also he is the idiot he didn't actually call and check to see if all the coaches would be there before he went...Basically his fault.

Report Offensive CommentIf a grad asst was showing him around, it was scheduled. All of their activities are planned out in advance and he was obviously tasked with this assignment.

Basically his fault? Um, no, it isn't. Spurrier wanted this kid, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't keeping his visit a secret. SC was recruiting HIM, not the other way around. Obviously, other schools wanted him too. Recruits don't typically call immediately prior to their visit, to make sure all the coaches will be there. If you want the kid, you BE there. Simple as that.

Report Offensive CommentOh man what was the Ol' Ball COach thinking!? This kid sounds like a beast at 6'7 240, must have been a I Love Lucy Marathon on or something

Ok let's take another look at those other schools who want him...Akron, Delaware, East Carolina, Kentucky, South Carolina and UAB....All of those look incredibly appealing NOT...the kid isn't a blue chipper or anything or even a fout star recruit he will make the right decision. The kid knows he's getting an oppurtunity to actually play for a nationally ranked team and a legendary Coach he wasn't even upset that none of the coaches were there.

Report Offensive CommentIf he went to Colorado Buffaloes for a visit, he would have had STRIPPERS showing him around campus...this kid must not be that smart after all!

So...if you're not a four star recruit, then you DESERVE to get treated with arrogance and disrespect? And seriously, it's not like he's trying to decide between Kentucky and UF, LSU, or UGA... it's South Carolina and I'd say they're about equal to UK. And don't say things like "legendary" when talking about Stevie, his head is swollen enough.

Report Offensive CommentI would like some clarification.
1) Did this kid plan the visit with the staff or just show up?
2) If the kid notified the staff and they told him they would be there and then went on vacation, then I can see lambasted the staff.

ARE YOU CRAZY? Nationally ranked, SC was ranked for 2 seconds last year on their way to six straight losses. Columbia is the armpit of our state, so seeing how nasty the city is and how depressing South Carolinas facilities are, why would you go to S.C. ?

Report Offensive Commentwhen i did all my recruting visits it was always prearranged with the Coaching staff, so I am sure they knew he was coming, but they also knew they would be on vacation. They could have had somebody better then a GA showing him around though. Get a cheerleader or something....

Report Offensive CommentOk you say USC and Kentucky are equal well USC's preseason ranking for next year is #23....Kentucky is at #50....I wouldn't say they are equal by any means.

Report Offensive CommentI is funny how all of you haters like to jump on the Ol' Ball Coach. From what the article said it was not a big deal to the kid and his coach was the one that got his panties in a wad! Last I knew it was an "unofficial" visit which are usually not very planned out! GO ****!

Oooooohhh!! PRESEASON rankings! Well, why didn't you say so in the first place?! Those preseason polls tell you all you need to know about the upcoming season, don't they? Why, after I see the preseason polls, I don't even bother to actually WATCH the games...what would be the point? We already know what's going to happen, right? Man, I'm REALLY sorry for questioning your knowledge, I didn't realize you were using such scientifically accurate data. You really came prepared, didn't you?
If you get some time, would you please list this upcoming season's FINAL Top 25 for me, it would help me out a bunch. Thanks.
