Avs: Theodore to test market

With contract talks breaking down between the Avalanche and Jose Theodore, it seems Peter Budaj will enter training camp for a second consecutive year as the favorite to be the starting goalie. Don Meehan, Theodore's agent, said Thursday discussions between him and the team regarding his client have reached an impasse, and Theodore will test the NHL free-agent market beginning Tuesday. Meehan would not elaborate on why the talks stalled, but money and terms are the obvious likelihoods. Theodore, 31, made $6 million in the final year of his contract. He isn't likely to make that with the Avs or anyone else next season, but a few factors are in his favor in getting another hefty contract.

Jose only wants to get paid as a #1 guy. He just doesn't like the work that goes with it, so 10-12 games a year is right up his alley!

If he doesn't go to Ottowa, I'm thinking he should try Columbus. They're evidently shopping and I'm thinking expectations might be a little lower there.

This guy was streaky in the regular season and he stunk up the joint in the play-offs. What exactly is his worth? Whoever signs him.......they'll know how inconsistent he really is.
