Niedermayer returning to Ducks

Scott Niedermayer, one of the key ingredients to the Ducks' Stanley Cup season in 2007, said that he would return to the Ducks next season, although he might make it his last. After contemplating retirement after each of the last two seasons, Niedermayer said in a conference call with reporters that he didn't want to go out on a low note -- the Ducks' loss in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. But then it really could be a wrap for his long and distinguished career. Another reason to come back, Niedermayer said, was his desire to finish out the last year of his four-year, $27-million contract.

This will be Niedermayers last season in the NHL. His swan song. Will he go out on top?

Nope.... Dallas & Detroit = western conf final

June 27, 2008  01:47 PM ET

At least it did not take him 4 months this time!

June 27, 2008  01:57 PM ET

he only got a Norris on sympathy vote anyway

June 27, 2008  06:34 PM ET

like I said...you're just upset BGM that Lidstrom is better than Borque

June 27, 2008  06:42 PM ET

Aside from Duck & Neidermayer fans, does anyone else care anymore? Like Sand Through The Hourglass, So Are The Days Of Niedermayer's Life.

I agree

He made the right choice. He'll finish up his contract and the Ducks have a serious chance of contending next year.

June 28, 2008  09:50 AM ET

How anyone can look at the stats and say Lidstom is better than Bourque is ridiculous. Lidstrom would have had to score around 80 points a season for 20 seasons to break Bourque's scoring record for a defenseman.....he has scored 80 once! And as for the Norris...he didn't have the competition Bourque had in his career. There's a reason he didn't start to win Norris trophies until 2001...all the stud defenseman from the 80's and 90's were then gone or in the late stages of their career

Red Wings fans can dream on......Lidstom doesn't touch Bourque. Elite defenseman but come on....

June 28, 2008  11:08 AM ET

That argument is going to go on forever...if you use plain stats to argue a players worth to his team then you're an idiot

give it a rest newf77...BGM and I are just having some fun with each other

June 28, 2008  11:09 AM ET

nobody can touch Orr...after that it's all speculation
