Royals should sign Barry Bonds

Nobody has signed Barry Bonds ... his agent came out and said that Barry has offered his services to all 30 teams for the minimum salary. The minimum! Then he said he does not even want the minimum; he would donate his salary so kids could watch baseball games. Kids! And I started thinking: You know, the Royals should sign this guy. The circus? Hell, the Royals could USE a little circus. It's been how long -- Bo -- since they've had a good circus.

I hope they don't sign him, but if it made sense anywhere, I think it would be Pittsburgh....for many of the same reasons as above.....

KC is playing well right now, I wouldn't disrupt it......

B*nds...

June 27, 2008  12:53 PM ET

There is still a good amount of hard feelings over Bonds in Pittsburgh from when he left. That said, lets pretend for a minute that the fans would let bygones be bygones and bring him back to where he started. Where would they play him? Which outfielder are you going to bench to start Bonds? Nady, Bay, or McClouth?

June 27, 2008  12:54 PM ET

I am enjoying the Circus of him not getting a job more then if he fakes his way to 3000.

June 27, 2008  12:58 PM ET

My assumption is based on the premise that they are going go move Nady and/or Bay. I'm not arguing for them to sign Bonds.....I think the Pirates should keep their nucleus intact.

June 27, 2008  12:59 PM ET

And I'm sure Bonds also promises to be a good teammate and best friend to all, sign autographs after games for every last fan, put a stop to world hunger, free Tibet, and reduce oil prices to under $50 a barrel.

Stay home, Barry - baseball's better off without you.

Bonds looks super skinny

You won't meet a bigger fan of the Royals than me, but to say they shouldnt sign him because he might disrupt them? The R's are not going to win the Central. Sign him to the minimum, let him donate the money, and put him in the DH role. It makes too much sense.

"Bo Knows" comebacks. He's less than a couple years older than Bonds. Bo could be just as ineffective as Bonds, but without the negativity.

Stupid. Bonds was one of the best hitters last year.

June 27, 2008  02:08 PM ET

If he's offering to work for free, I have some lawns that need mowing.

June 27, 2008  02:15 PM ET

Sounds pretty desparate to me

June 27, 2008  02:17 PM ET

The last three seasons were his worst since the '80's (pre-roid). You know, in theory, they test for that stuff now. So he's probably not going to stay healthy and he sure can't run the bases. So he'll need to do what he does best lately, walk or hit it out. No one's going to be afraid to pitch to him now, and I'm sure his bat speed would be great after his time off.

By best "hitter" do you mean 147th in AVG, 23rd in HR, and 61st in RBI in just the National League?

June 27, 2008  02:19 PM ET

Yes, then he can enjoy eating burnt ends

I agree, but his head hasn't shrunk. He looks like that little guy with the big head, on that NYS lottery TV commerical.

Teams are stupid for not signing this man at a minimum salary he is the greates home run hitter of all time. and the steroid stuff is a bunch of crap if he took them... he took them... steroids dont help you see a ball coming at you 90 mph. the man hit has hit the homers because of good eyes on the ball and good swing on them.I think the reds should get rid of Griffey and sign this guy

First, I didn't say "best hitter," I said "one of the best hitters."

Second, your numbers are wrong. Bonds didn't qualify for the batting title, so I'm not really sure what # of PA's you're using to rank for AVG. Of National League batters who had a minimum of 475 plate appearances, Bonds was 51st in AVG and tied for 58th in RBI's.

But those aren't the stats I was looking at, anyway.

AVG is alright to look at, but there are better stats. HR's don't really tell the story becuase Bonds only had 340 at bats, and to judge a hitter based on RBI's is just stupid -- the batter can't put his teammates on base before he hits.

I was looking at Bonds being #1 in OBP, 12th in SLG, and 3rd in OPS in the entire MLB, not just the NL. To you that is "ineffective?" Unless you root for either the Yankees or Red Sox, there is not a hitter on your team that was more effective per plate appearance than Barry Bonds.

I don't like Bonds, but to say that he was ineffective is just stupid.

June 27, 2008  02:58 PM ET

Face it, Barry. Nobody likes you, and you don't have any friends.

And I didn't say he WAS ineffective. I'm saying he wouldn't be effective if he was signed now. STUPID!
