Pirates should look to move veteran hitters

The Pirates have a shot to make it to .500 for the first time since Barry Bonds left town (yes, it's been awhile), but wisely, they say that will not deter them if they have the right deal for one of their prized veterans. Jason Bay and Xavier Nady should be highly coveted, and I can imagine the Mets calling every other day to try to bring back Nady, whom they dealt to the Bucs for Oliver Perez in 2006.

We trade them away and it will be another 15 years before a .500 year. Look at their abominable trades in the past.......

Yes, I agree. What do the Pirates have to show for Aramis Ramirez, who's been a top flight 3B for several years now?

Bonds' departure didn't cause sub-.500 ball after the '92 season. Pitching did. Prior to 1993, the team ERA had been above 4.00 only once since 1955. It's only been under 4.00 once since.

I've been watching the Pirates/Yankees series and although I am a Yankee fan, I am impressed with the way the Pirates swing the bat. It's not the Yanks pitching altogether either b/c these guys hit for average. Plus, most of these guys are young.

My youngest baseball memory was Sid Bream at home when I was nine years old. It's nice knowing I can remember the last few minutes of Pirates glory.

The Rays will give you strarter Edwin Jackson, a truly gifted athlete with exceptional stuff, as well as RH power hitting outfielder Jonny Gomes in exchange for Jason Bay.

This is sad....the Pirates have built themselves the past 8 or 9 years by loading up on 1st round pitchers withthe hopes of building a dynamo rotation and then dealing their surplus young pitchers to other teams to bolster their hitting. But, dead arms Kris Benson, Bobby Bradley, Sean Burnett, John Venbensctoen (sp) and batting practice throwers Paul Malholm, Bryan Bullington and Zack Duke (2nd round) have failed failed failed.

Ironically, the Pirates have been hitting the cover off the ball even with Sanchez having a subpar year (although hurt) and LaRoche with his ERA near the Delta's GPA in animal house. Why not lock up Bay and Nady longer term if possible and put a few butts in the seats and hope the pitching works its way out in the next couple of years. If they trade them they will get more stiffs in return.

MR Tenrings STL....the Ramirez trade made me absolutely ill and is the epitaph on the Pirates tombstone in this free agent, guaranteed contract, capless sham that ismajor league baseball. It is funny as people in Maryland hate me for being a Steeler's fan but at the same time feel sorry for me for how truly lowly the Pirates have been for 16 years.

yeah but then who would the Pirates want from the Mets for Bay or Nady?.. Who would the Mets be willing to give up?.. I'd rather get Bay he's a few months younger lol. but Jason Bay has more power then Nady n can drive the ball down the line at Shea Stadium .. I'd send Damion Easley,Matt Wise and Ruddy Lugo and either a draft pick or player to be named later or cash considerations .. i wouldnt want to let go of too many of our players to get Bay.. Couldnt think to much on the trade i thoguht of but i think it wouldnt be to bad maybe.. Bring in Bay Mets!

Maybe the Pirates should bring in Bonds to play first base so he can finish his career where he started it! Also, Bonds can get three thousand hits and the Pirates can make a run at 500 while trading LaRoche who is absolutely terrible!

As a Cubs fan, I would love to see another trade between the two teams. Xavier Nady would be a nice addition, how about for a case of old style and Jon Lieber?
