Rays upset by Crisp reduction

The Tampa Bay Rays reacted with disbelief at the news Coco Crisp's suspension was reduced. Their annoyance was heightened by John McHale Jr.'s decision to uphold the three-game suspension given to Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura, who will miss the series opener. "First of all, the fact that after the appeal that we made the other day that Aki's suspension was not reduced, I'm kind of baffled by it," Rays manager Joe Maddon told reporters in Pittsburgh last night. Even more outspoken was pitcher James Shields, who hit Crisp with a pitch the night after he slid hard into Iwamura's ankle. Crisp reacted by charging the mound, which set off the melee. "I'm not happy about it at all," Shields said. "[Crisp] is the one who charged me. He's the one that instigated the whole thing. I don't agree with it . . . but there's nothing we can do about it."

Get over it! Besides I think getting thrown at during his first at bat of the night may have had something to do with causing it!

Listen...the tea leaves told MLB to reduce Crisp's. Not yours!

MLB needs to 1.) supply reasons for all suspensions, with their reasoning documented. 2.) Disclose all fines to players and managers 3.) Disclose all reasons for reducing suspensions or fines.

I don't think it is right that they can do whatever they want without having to justify their actions. Baseball just hides behind a veil of secrecy. Owners don't have to disclose their profits, etc. We need the Freedom of Information Act to apply to baseball :D

He got his suspension reduced cause he's a Red Sox...that's all that needs to be said....but, of course, I'll say more :-)

Let's see, HE slide into the 2B in an attempt to hurt him and HE charged Shields, so of course, stands to reason that HE is the one who gets his suspension reduced...

I'm pretty sure someone else was blocking second base on Crisps first steal attempt, the second attempt Crisp slid in hard, next game Crisp was hit by a pitch during his first at bat....Then Crisp charged the mound...lets not leave parts of this story out now ;)

June 28, 2008  09:49 AM ET

The SS was blocking the base, not trying to HURT Crisp. Crisp's problem should be with the UMPIRE, not Bartlett.

Then Crisp went in hard on a slide in an attempt to hurt the 2B...cause he was mad the SS got away with a block

Then he got hit for it the next game...and instead of taking his medicine like a man, he charged the mound.

Let's not let your bias block the truth :-)

...and , of course, he'll miss the upcoming Rays series...how convenient

I live in Tampa and am going to Mondays game against Boston , As a New York Mets fan as well as a Rays fan, I have no love for the Sux, I mean Sox. This whole incident just re-inforces my distaste for the Pretty Boy Bean eaters. Only the Yankees are more prima donnas than the Sox. The Rays are gonna kick some more Butt on Monday, and this time Shields is gonna connect with that swing.
Welcome to Florida, No Sox Allowed !

Pretty Boy Bean eaters? That's not a description I've ever heard for them.... but I have to hand it to you for your brilliant use of the word "Sux".... you don't have an avatar, follow the Rays, and yet you are already a fekking legend!

Jimmer.... you don't know your unwritten rules.... it's never over and you're never even.... in Crisp's mind he was getting them back not the other way around.... suspensions are the only thing that keeps the constant pay back in check.... 25 years ago, stuff like this went on for years....

His mind is warped.

Wait....did the guy who intentionally hit Crisp with a really hard object, thrown really fast....just say that Crisp "instigated the whole thing"?

June 28, 2008  12:11 PM ET

The bush league blocking of the plate and Crisp's hard slide balanced each other out.
By throwing at Crisp, he had to even it out again.

June 28, 2008  12:43 PM ET

wow... lol I feel for Iwamura. He really didn't do anything.

I feel bad*

HA HA HA THE ALMIGHTY RED SOX PREVAIL AGAIN!!!!

June 28, 2008  12:51 PM ET

the play at second base with which Crisp took exception was a legitimate play, something which every guy taking the throw is supposed to do -- block the bag. so Crisp's umbrage was wrong, and charging the mound was wrong. two wrongs must make a right, i guess, because Crisp plays for a Boston team, similarly to the Foxboro [greater Boston] Patriots, and cheating and such is the rule, not the exception, and so MLB will protect the BoSox and this particularly offensive, mediocre player because the BoSox are winning and partially owned by the NYTimes ... MLB 'discipline' is a joke ... similar to all the NFL rules protecting the poor little QB

More black sympathy. Black people cannot be disiplined. Blacks can get away with just about anything because white people continue to allow it. This should surprise no one.
