Celtics lining up free agents

With P.J. Brown unsure of whether he will return or retire, the club will contact a number of free agents when that season opens Tuesday. And don't be surprised if the C's, based on their success with Brown, go the veteran route again. It's expected that they will touch base with a crew that includes Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo. At the other end of the size spectrum, the C's also will attempt to set themselves at the point behind Rajon Rondo. They hope to keep Eddie House, but the way his minutes took a dive at the beginning of the playoffs may have him considering other options. Jason Williams and Tyronn Lue are names to keep in mind if House looks for a different home.

oops "route" sp.

June 28, 2008  09:05 AM ET

There going to end up like the 2004 Lakers

Morning's has DWADE and B-EASY as teammates, not to mention, shawn marion, so why would he leave? most importantly, he won a championship with his city and team of Miami and will retire a heat player.

I don't think the Celtics have high hopes of getting Zo, but there's no harm in trying, right? I think they're betting on the possibility that this is his last year and he might be hungry for one more championship shot (which he may think the Heat don't have).

Honestly, I'd be THRILLED to get Zo. I think he's exactly what the Celtics need from their Center position.

Saavage,

Do you really think veterans want to play with Kobe? Shaq's recent rap is a reminder of the kind of teammate Kobe is.

"Morning's has DWADE and B-EASY as teammates, not to mention, shawn marion, so why would he leave?"

Because once Mourning realized he was not a good enough player to carry a team to a title......he figured he could just hop on to sompeone elses back, let them do the work and he could be carried to one.....
as he tried to do in NJ & did with being shaq's caddy

Mourning never said he wanted out of miami for his last year , This article must habe been written from the boston globe. There morons.

June 28, 2008  12:19 PM ET

I hope they don't keep J Willimas and Lue in mind for very long. They both suck

June 28, 2008  12:35 PM ET

they should sign Latrell Sprewell

June 28, 2008  12:36 PM ET

*Fro617* I'm in complete agreement. I think Zo would certainly keep the competitive fires burning while being a great backup to both K.G. and Perk. They should do this in my opinion.

June 28, 2008  01:05 PM ET

You gotta hand it to the Celtics...they won a championship with a bucket full of old parts. Might as well continue to build on that!

=======================================
If I may say so buddy,
Shaq's comments shows what kind of person he is... An impolite and arrogant CHEAP SHOT!!!!

He has mocked Jabbar's sky hook
...so is Yao Ming being Chinese
...Dampier being soft (obviously, this one I agree)
..and MIAMI's training staff.

Any rebuttals?

June 28, 2008  01:08 PM ET

House will disappear altogether if he jumps to another team; finding a big guy to replace Brown just shouldn't be that big of a problem. the key to repeating next year will be seeing how big of a head Rondo gets from being part of a winning team this year; the media hype sometimes makes it sound like he was the reason they won it all, when in fact, he simply didn't make enough mistakes to cost them the title. if Pierce, CG, and Allen stay healthy, all these new rookies and all the movement among the 'also rans' may make the regular season more entertaining and 'competitive,' but should not keep the Celtics from repeating

June 28, 2008  01:22 PM ET

i doubt that hank. I know a 5 year old could say this but i have a areason to say, here comes a celtics dynasty.

June 28, 2008  01:28 PM ET

Given the Big3 will be Big3,

They should keep Posey...A guy who is a really good defender and can score from beyond the arc..

After that, They can still keep their heads above water with average Crew.

June 28, 2008  01:34 PM ET

Don't rule out Iverson and the other greats :).... I know they're contemplating the idea. Iverson wanted to be a Celtic , but the deal didn't work out; But once he really realizes that he's not getting any younger... He'll come to the GREAT side!!!! The entire league is trying to play catch up with the Celtics right now... The future is gonna be real SCARY for opposing teams!!!!!

June 28, 2008  02:07 PM ET

What are they trying to become? The Spurs?

"Mourning never said he wanted out of miami for his last year , This article must habe been written from the boston globe. There morons."

Let's start with capitalizing proper nouns, then using the correct form of the word "there". In this case it is "they're" as in, they are. Then you can call anyone else morons.
