Delfino has no future with Raps

It's a virtual certainty that former second-round draft pick Ukic will be in Toronto next year and it appears the Raptors are willing to bring over this year's second-round pick, Australian center Nathan Jawai, to let him try to develop his game. The one player who seems to be on his way out is restricted free agent Carlos Delfino. Because of financial constraints, and the desire to give coach Sam Mitchell a chance to establish a regular rotation, Delfino doesn't appear to have a future with the Raptors. And because of those same issues, it's unlikely Toronto would entertain a sign-and-trade proposition for Delfino, who may end up heading to Europe, where he's sure to command a greater salary than he'll get in the NBA.

He's a bust. Like Darko. He was drafted in the first round and has shown nothing. He not quick, agile, and just plain unathletic. Good luck getting signed anywhere except for a year a minimum so a space can be filled and his salary will come off the book for next years free agents.

the raptors have a serious front court

j.oneal and c.bosh are going to dominate in the east

(n.jawai will be instant depth off the bench - needs to work on his defense a little but watch out for this guy to be part of the rotation straight up)

Delfino could play somewhere such as Cleveland, couldn't he?

June 28, 2008  10:02 AM ET

Good riddance, he seemed to have potential when he came to town, but one year was enough. Hope he has fun in Europe.

j.oneal and c.bosh are going to dominate in the east.

The Pacers unloaded O'Neal and his knees. The player formerly known as Jermaine O'Neal is gone. The Raptors are gambling on the player they remember. Don't count on it.

Hllywood
first off we are talking the EAST
second oneal as the no2 option looks good
lastly a risk worth taking tj is good but with his contract an even bigger RISK
his knees arent that bad it aint bone on bone or anything to major so i say it will work

June 28, 2008  11:04 AM ET

winkstrap---The problem caused him to miss 42 games this season. As of today, the doctors don't know what the problem is. Therefore the can't take care of it. O'Neal will spend another season in and out of the line-up. If he were expected to return to 100%, he would never have been available. Bird knew this and dumped him.

June 28, 2008  11:11 AM ET

seriously how much does bird know (tj is a much bigger risk) come on dude hes a clone of jordan when it comes to these decisions - off court they know jack SH1+

Who is carlos delfino ?
and why would an article be written about hiim?

June 28, 2008  12:54 PM ET

O'Neill is a risk. No doubt. However, he was the best player available straight-up for TJ Ford. No team wanted to commit a proven star because Ford is one hard foul away from being sidelined for life.

The Raptors are better just for having a legit centre now, something they haven't had since Antonio Davis. O'Neill doesn't have to dominate. If he can contribute 13 pts./ 10 boards a game, and block a couple of shots, he will be gold in Toronto. Their interior defense is horrid and soft.

As for Jawai, don't expect anything anytime soon. This guy is a huge project. He has only been playing b-ball for 6 years. If you think he would have any chance against NBA centres now, you are certifiably nuts.

He can still stick around....On bad teams needing a slasher...

By the way...

The beloved USA may be in recession and the Euro is way so much stronger than the Dollar..

He might be heading to Europe.

Delfino's an excellent spot up shooter and a much better athelete than he's given credit for. He could fit in very nicely on a team like the Spurs as a suitable replacement for Barry off the bench.

June 28, 2008  06:22 PM ET

Even as a bench player, mediocre would he be. To Europe, he should go.

June 28, 2008  10:01 PM ET

If you can make more in Europe, then go!

June 29, 2008  10:14 AM ET

O'Neal and Bosh dominate the east? two stick figures dominate? Dwight Howard will put them BOTH to shame at one time...

June 29, 2008  10:53 AM ET

no team in the leauge needs him he should be like juan carolos navarro & play in the euroleauge

I thought
Delfino wasn't a bad player and is definetly a great 6th seventh man. Besides shooting he also likes to drive like ginobli. His game is underrated. He might get more in Euro but dont get it twisted he is an NBA player and has skill.
