Cavs tried to trade for Carter
Posted: Saturday June 28, 2008 08:50AM ET
The Nets may seem to be in the process of blowing up their roster, but if they truly wanted to experience a true demolition job, they had their chance Wednesday night. As they were putting some of the finishing touches on the Richard Jefferson-Yi Jianlian deal, the Nets received a call from the Cleveland Cavaliers, who offered them Wally Szczerbiak and his expiring, $13.2 million salary for Vince Carter. According to two Eastern Conference executives, who asked for anonymity so as not to spill Rod Thorn's secrets, the Nets considered it -- but not for very long.

james is totally going to bail on the cavs, and leave them like the knicks. tons of huge contracts for ham and eggers, and over the hill "cagey" vets.

Report Offensive CommentThat would be an intresting combo. But I think Carter is or on his way to being washed up

Report Offensive CommentI think Carter is a good trade for a second scorer. to be quite honest, he could be the primary scorer for a team and even a franchise player if he didn't get injured so much. a franchise player can be soft, but if so he needs an enforcer on his team. Since Miami could use another great scorer and seemingly are going with chalmers at the point, and since Dwade gets injured, I wouldn't mind seeing them trade for carter (to start at sf and play some sg)l and the center nj had last year for maybe Haslem and Ricky Davis. It would fill two spots for the heat and then they could play blount at his natural position since he's too soft for the center. also they could play darnell (the draftee) at pf also and begin developing him.

Report Offensive CommentIf given a pistol and a badge, Carter couldn't guard a tree. He can score, but defense wins championships. Look at Phoenix, Dallas and Denver. They can all score, but none made it out of the first round.
New Jersey may go for Bron, but that's like expecting to get the No. 1 pick in the draft. May happen, but don't count on it.

Report Offensive CommentFor those people that don't think Carter brings anything to the table, if this deal would happen, I think you'd be terribly surprised. So much of a players success or failure depends on the people around him. Carter may not be able to carry a team, but with LeBron, if he were to stay healthy, the sky's the limit.

Where does the logic that Carter is injury-proned come from? In the last 3 years, he's played 79, 82, and 76 games. If I'm Cleveland, I'd pull the trigger on this deal in a heartbeat.

You would HAVE TO......
that being said-
I think vince would seriously hamper LBJ's play.
Vince is a ball hog, has never learned to play without the ball.
LBJ would be ready to kill him by mid-season

Report Offensive CommentI am a mavs fan and I feel we got a bit fleeced in the J kidd trade, regardless of our first round exit. I think NJ is hoping for a pick in there or something. lots of talk about bron bron coming over in 2010, fact is it almost certainly won't happen. other then shaq moving teams, what other player has ever taken less to move?
NJ appears to be doing a good job acquiring young talent.

Report Offensive CommentCarter is a good trade. He is on the down-side of his career, but he could be a scary 2nd option.
