Mayo, Love liked swapping teams

O.J. Mayo was attending an NBA draft party hours after he was selected with by Minnesota when family and friends informed him he'd been shipped to Memphis for Kevin Love in a late-night blockbuster deal involving eightplayers. Moments afterward, Rudy Gay - Mayo's new teammate in the backcourt - walked in the door to welcome him to the South. "It was a great feeling," Mayo said as he was introduced Friday at a news conference in Memphis. "I was happy to see Rudy, and I'm happy to be playing for the Grizzlies." Kevin Love was out on the town in New York with his brother and friends when he got word. Mayo and Love were the toast of the town in Los Angeles, starring at USC and UCLA, respectively, for just one year before leaving for the NBA. But before they even put on an NBA uniform, they became the story of the draft.

What else are they going to say?

Love wants to be in Minnesota...Minneapolis is the bomb....Mchale a hall of famer big man is in charge. Mayo, I think would have rather been in Miami, probably wished to be passed over to seattle or a larger city, or was probably hoping when he heard the trade that a larger market city had traded for him. After learning he was traded to Memphis, I'm sure he started appreciating Minnesota. Memphis is an okay city, he has okay teammates, no real pressure to win (lol), plus not that far from other major cities, so i'm sure he'll learn to appreciate memphis, if he doesn't now.

grizzlies who take money (millions) under the table to make deals like donating gasol deserve nothing, your owner is a tight@rze di5grace and i feel sorry for any fans of the grizzlies

Memphis is not really an NBA city. Even when the Grizzlies made the playoffs a few years back, the fans didn't flock to see them. People there either don't care, or so many of them are so poor they can't afford to go. You heard complaints all across the U.S. when Gasol was dealt, but not much out of Memphis. Mayo played in front of bigger crowds in high school than what he'll see this year.

The T-Wolves were rumored to be taking Love from the start. I'm sure he wasn't surprised. I don't understand why they didn't just take him in the first place.

Hllwd, this way the Wolves also got Mike Miller. And, the Wolves got rid of Jaric and Walker.

Are we really supposed to believe that either of these players is really happy going to teams in such a sorry state as they are? Also I doubt any player is happy to get to play in Memphis of all places. Best thing about the city is Beale Street.

the only good thing about Memphis is leaving it for good
they will now be feeling alot more LOVE in Minnesota

June 28, 2008  11:15 AM ET

At this point, the only thing a young rookie is concerned about is that 1st check. About January when the team is south of .500 and falling, is when all this becomes a JOB. Things will change when Mayo learns they have no chance of winning. This is where you separate the men from the boys. You can't continue to pay these guys to be perennial losers.

Both have walked into HORRIBLE front office situations
which means both will not sniff the playoffs until they become free-agents

June 28, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Seriously, are they going to say they hate how it turned out?

June 28, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Memphis shouldn't even have a team. Instead of moving Seattle to Ok, City why not move memphis instead

June 28, 2008  12:46 PM ET

Al Jefferson and Kevin Love would be pretty good down in the post.

I agree. If Minny is able to add a few "pieces," things could change in a hurry.

June 28, 2008  01:25 PM ET

Yea youre right. they havent quite made enough yet in order for a turnaround season

June 28, 2008  01:36 PM ET

The way I see it, the management sees Al Jefferson as the MAN.

That LOVE will find a way..... To make Jefferson a force in the front court.
Having Mayo gives them a strong backcourt obviously but it doesnt help AL.

Al Jefferson is the Man in Minny..
Has the skills and the CHARACTER!

Remember that he did not ask for the MAX contract at a time when everybody is over estimating his value. He knows his worth(as a greta potential but not yet there) and humble enough to accept it.

It was a natural swap, since "Mayo" immediately follows "Love" in the alphabetical list of all the draft picks.
Since they would be next to each other in the alphabetical list, it is easy for them to switch places, much like a genetic mutation or swap of neighboring genes in DNA.

Dude; do you ever have a point that is even remotely gremaine to the topic? Or do you just enjoy playing with that computer and seeing your ridiculous thoughts in print?
