In the aftermath of an arrest for DUI and other charges, Billy Humphrey has been kicked off the Georgia men's basketball team. Humphrey, 20, was arrested Tuesday morning in Gwinnett County for DUI, failure to maintain his lane and purchasing alcohol while under age. Friday afternoon, Georgia coach Dennis Felton announced his decision to dismiss Humphrey. Humphrey, who was to be a senior in the 2008-09 season, was Georgia's second-leading scorer last season and helped the team to the NCAA Tournament. A guard from Dacula, Humphrey played in 30 of 34 games last season, starting 28. He averaged 12.2 points per game, second-best on the team. According to the police report of his drunk driving arrest obtained by the Journal-Constitution, Humphrey pleaded with police not to arrest him and was later warned that he could be tasered.

thats fair. kick out every student who gets a DUI this days then. maybe half of students run into some type of trouble before they graduate. so take eveyrthing away form the kid and that should help.

Man, that finger is 45 to the floor. How does he do that?

what does humphrey do now? Does he go as a free agent to the NBA or does he transfer to a small school? Someone help me out with this

This story sucks. I hate when this happens to student-athletes. They have more privileges than a normail student then you go and mess it up by taking advantage of the system that gave you an upper-hand in the first place. Probably, could have saw warning signs of his development. Bonehead move. Buying alcohol as a basketball player

yeah how crazy a college kid wanting to drink. they should electocute him

Applied as my puppeteer, did he.

But digital, I not am.

Take his desires elsewhere, he must.

Digital I NOW am.

It was his third arrest. If it was his first, I could see a small suspension but he has been in and out of trouble every year. Wash your hands of him and get somebody in there who appreciates the free ride.

Student-athletes are held in higher regard at colleges. Doing something stupid like that brings a bad light on the college. It shows bad judgment. If he was wiser, he would have had an older student purchase the alcohol & a DD drive...not that i'm advocating underage drinking(i've got a 20 yr old)...

There goes our chances of a decent season

Athens, Ga. is trying to clean up their act, image and reputation as one of the premier college "drunk" towns in the country. Both police and college administration are committed to do that which is no secret to UGA students! That an athlete who has already had multiple chances would even attempt to purchase, much less consume and drive intoxicated is just plain stupid! My empathy goes out to his parents whom I'm sure are devastated by this!

June 30, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Yeah, it was his second DUI offense if I am not mistaken, so he should've known better. He knew what would happen to him as soon as he got arrested, but he should've thought about it before driving drunk.

Does everyone with a little talent get kicked off of the UGA team? At least Sundiata was able to stay out of trouble.

June 30, 2008  03:12 PM ET

first off it was his first dui. but second drinking arrest. He was arrested for this dui outside of athens in gwinnett county. It is his third arrest so it is not like he hasnt had second chances. Maybe people should be held respoinsible for their actions. Felton did the right thing, he is trying to clean up the program. If you pay enough attention to college basketball you realize the best programs do not have all the drama uga bball has had over the past few years. felton is doing everything he can to build a good program. His biggest downfall is recruiting people with low character (i.e. Mercer, Humphrey and brown) but at least he is man enough to do the right thing instead of being everyone's friend. Humphrey deserves what he got, anyone who says he doesnt is just ignorant.

deserves what he got 3rd arrest , many chances, driving intoxicated. Way to throw everything away moron

good grief. this guy was awesome (for UGA b-ball standards) and now he is gone....other players are really going to have to step it up but i don't see us doing better than our 4-12 SEC record from last year
