Kobe won't talk about Shaq's rap

Famously, or infamously, back in the early days of his career, Kobe Bryant was an aspiring rapper, even releasing an album. There will be no picking up a microphone again for him, however. Bryant's response to former teammate Shaquille O'Neal's lambasting him in an obscenity-laced rap freestyle at a New York nightclub? No response. "I didn't take it any kind of way whatsoever," Bryant said Saturday, before declining to take any more questions on the topic.

you dont make comments after LOSING in the nba finals

and hes scared of SHAQ anyway

June 29, 2008  08:50 AM ET

i like shaq and i have never really liked kobe but this was the right move, kobe is showing right here that he has matured as a person and by leading his time to the finals showed he has matured as a leader. Good move kobe now stay away from the ladies in colorado

Kobe taking the high road here is what differentiates him from the majority of NBA players. This is just what Kobe needed to stay focused this offseason.

Plus, what could he have said anyway?

June 29, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Who cares??

June 29, 2008  09:44 AM ET

Plus, what could he have said anyway?
G.Santi | 06/29/08, 08:55 AM

Well, if he didn't want to take the high road, he could have said something like:

"Well, Shaq's gotta do SOMETHING to stay relevant and in the news, since his play isn't doing it anymore in his twilight years."

Or:

"Maybe Shaq would be better served WORKING OUT in the offseason instead of doing horrible freestyle in night clubs."

Good job Kobe...your best bet is to get your rap game tight(Lawd knows you need help with it) and do underground mix tapes dissing shaq...give shaq a call and arrange this...you two could make good money dissing each other over music

June 29, 2008  10:11 AM ET

He could always advise Shaq daddy to work on his free throws instead of his rap music! Not sure which is worse at this point!

June 29, 2008  10:20 AM ET

I don't like Kobe Bryant. At all. But he did the right thing here. I hope he's growing up a little. Now maybe Shaq can do the same thing.

Kobe is focusing on winning the gold medal for USA.

June 29, 2008  10:45 AM ET

way 2 be big kobe, way bigger than little d*ck shaq..... most people who are short in certain areas always attack and have napoleon syndrome

June 29, 2008  11:02 AM ET

Here come the Kobe haters....

You know you're a hater when a guy does the right thing and you still find a reason to criticize...

Take a cue from "tellitlikeitis", he doesn't like Kobe but acknowledges the guy his handling the situation right. Kobe could have kept this going over the summer, but he let the big Ari-stasshole off the hook.

June 29, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Well, I'm the biggest Kobe hater ever, but he certainly made the right move this time. Aftre 4 years of Shaq trying to project himself as the better person, he showed no class at all in doing this. Kobe should be applauded for not "going there" with him.

June 29, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Shaq really comes across as a whining baby on this whole thing. It looks like he's doing whatever he can to be back in the spotlight.

June 29, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Exactly. The rap story was news for one day, and now no one cares, including Shaq and Kobe themselves. It's old news.
Things are going well for Kobe right now - he's the league MVP; his team went to the NBA Finals; and he's getting ready to go to Beijing for the Olympic experience. He doesn't care about the rap issue any longer - assuming he ever cared about it at all.

June 29, 2008  11:43 AM ET

The only thing that kobe can say is how Shaq's **** taste

June 29, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Good job KOBE.At least one of you acted like a man and took the high road.Shaq is just a big mouth baby!!His dad must be disgusted.Go Team USA!!!

June 29, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Kobe haters can talk all they want, but he is looking more & more like the more mature person. I loved Shaq in LA but now he is just like a bitter ex. He blames Kobe for his divorce...waaaaa, how about you blame yourself big guy?

Besides, he's already won a title without Kobe so he has the upperhand right now. Must be scared knowing Kobe will win one, maybe more, by himself very soon and he is on the downside of his career.
