Riley eyes point guard trade

Pat Riley said he still might trade for a point guard, with Memphis ( Kyle Lowry, among others) considered in play. Otherwise, the Heat believes it can find a stopgap starter from a free agent group including Chris Duhon, Carlos Arroyo, Keyon Dooling, Anthony Johnson, Tyronn Lue, Jannero Pargo and Anthony Carter. And the Heat likes restricted free agent Sebastian Telfair, though Minnesota can match any offer.

Keyon Dooling is perfect he knows the heats plays, he played for my heaters before & he & Wade could be a good backcourt both are good ball handlers , great ball iq & both are shooters & head to the rim & make something happen.

they need a PG who is a great shooter with the 3,4,5 already loaded and arent great jump shooters

We wish we could tell Pat Riley:
Mr.Riley - By all means, go get your point guard, and get a center while you're at it. But don't mess up the core of players that you have - Wade, Beasley, and Marion. Sign Marion to a long-term contract, so that those 3 positions should be set in stone for the next 5 years.

It won't really matter how many point guard are available. Expect Riley to make the wrong decision. Remember this is the guy that thought the answer was Smush Parker.

They just got Mario Chalmers in the draft. He would be as good as any of those names listed.

June 29, 2008  12:32 PM ET

I agree to stop thinking as Coach Riley and think as GM/President Riley. These aren't players you're going to coach, so who cares how you feel about a player. If Coach Spoeltra would rather play quinn or the rookie Chalmers at that position and just sign a decent center, then let it go. I mean look at the players we had under riley. Smush and Ricky Davis were the answer. Ed Barron is still on the team while we let slaughter walk. Hell, don't even think like GM/President Riley because you're not doing a great job at the role either. Pretend you're Phil Jackson, who saw that the addition of Fisher was a difference maker and then pushed for a trade for Gasol.

I wouldn't mind seeing them trade Marion for Elton Brand to get a little taller. Or seeing them trade Marion for Baron Davis. I think the real core is DWade and B-EASY, and if we add either of the before stated players, they will be the third player we would think about building around long term. \
[Baron Davis, DWade, B-Easy,](core) Haslem, and a serviceable Center coupled with Alonzo when it really counts.
or
Chalmers/Quinn, DWade, B-Easy, Haslem, and Brand.

Either way if Marion is expendable if we get a star point in return or a star big man. I think with the addition of a Baron Davis, however, we look more Phoenix and with the addition of Brand, we would be more like the lakers/Magic.

I don't care what Miami does as long as they don't waste their time or money with Sebastian Telfair! PLease no!!!

CHRIS DUHON, BOYS CHRIS DUHON,
CLEARLY THE CREAM OF THE CROP, HE WAS WASTED IN CHI-TOWN!
HE'S 16 AND 9 WAITING TO HAPPEN.....
GIVE HIM 40 MINUTES AND WATCH OUT....

June 29, 2008  01:54 PM ET

If Riles makes a trade, he needs to get Felton from the 'Cats. They drafted 2 PGs(why?) even though Felton wasn't bad. As long as we avoid Duke players, we'll be alright...

jamaal tinsley is for sale go for him give us anything we just want him gone

Mario Chalmers is going to be a very good point guard for the Heat. No need to trade for a starting point guard. Get James Posey. He is a free agent if he does not exercise his option for about 3 and 1/2 million. Its time for him to come back and help the Heat get another ring.

Enjoyed Pat Riley's performances in the movies 'Wall Street' and 'Basic Instinct', I did.

well memphis will probally trade a player for some season tickets to heat games . they do seem to be having a firesale in Tenn.

June 29, 2008  07:06 PM ET

good lord, the heat doesn't even need more point guards, they have quinn and wade runs the offense most of the time anyways.

June 29, 2008  07:08 PM ET

I wouls love to see Carlos Arroyo with the Heat....

Actually Quinn is a restricted free agent so they might not bring him back because we got banks and chalmers but they might if they don't go out and sign a point guard or go trade for one.

IF you actually covet Sebastian Tefair, you can only be the GM of a minor league club........or the hawks or Clippers, at best!!!

ESPN, or you could be Pat Riley. I mean, Telfair is a few steps above smush parker (not that i don't think smush can still play, but don't know if he'll be given the chance. people never question Pat Riley's ability to coach and develop players outside of the center position, they usually just blame the players. look at how many players have to miami stars or okay players and left with reps as duds...Walker, Wayne Simion <- was descent i thought, Eddie Jones became know n as the choker, Tim hardaway as injured but look at a riley practice, same for Jamal Mashburn, etc...) so you never know what you get with Pat Riley who stated during last summers free agent run: I don't want to overpay. i know the value of a player as he let Lewis sign with Orlando, offered Mo Williams little to nothing, and then signed smush parker, took Ricky Davis' and Mark Blount's huge contracts...
