NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell did his best today to allay fears of Buffalo Bills fans over the team's foray into Canada. Goodell offered full support to the team's plan to play eight games in Toronto over the next five years. "The efforts going on to regionalize the team I think are strengthening the team and making the team more successful in Buffalo," Goodell said. "I think that's what's positive, and I think that's what the fans should understand. It's good for the Bills and I believe it will be good for the fans overall." Goodell said he does not agree with the perception that the move could be the first step toward the team's relocation to Toronto.

sorry statement about the USA economy when an American team could consider moving to Canadian and not fear the exchange rate..

June 29, 2008  10:18 AM ET

If Goodell comes out in support of Buffalo the team is as good as gone.

WE'RE FROM THE NFL AND WE'RE HERE DO HELP YOU!

YOU BELIEVE US, DON'T YOU?

After all we are the folks who brought you $100 nosebleed seats, $8 beers, $7 soggy, greasy fries, $10 hockey puck burgers, $5 watered down sodas, 2000 tickets for hometown regular fans if their team makes it into the Super Bowl (for a minimum ticket price of $350,) stadium sound systems that leave one deaf and ears ringing throughout the game with blasting gangsta rap music when the crowd is 99% older and white, virtually no security at games so that women are routinely assaulted by drunken thugs/fans, filthy unmaintained restrooms with 50-75 people waiting on line and missing half of the third quarter, venues where badly behaving fans are egged on by management with insulting and degrading chants which go on almost non-stop when the opponent is on the field, opponent fans permitted to be treated as criminal suspects, abused verbally and physically and have beer and vomit thrown on them for having the nerve to enter the stadium, encouraging recidivist felons to collect millions as "players," and worst of all, contributing to a drunk driving epidemic every Sunday during the season when at least half of the people leaving the stadiums across the country are so drunk they can hardly find their cars, let alone drive them.

THIS IS THE NFL, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

TRUST THEM NOT TO SCREW BUFFALO?

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING, THEY'RE COMING TO A CITY NEAR YOU, SOON.....

THEY WANT TO SPREAD THE NFL BRAND THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AND APPARENTLY THE CANADIEN FOOTBALL LEAGUE HAS NO MEANING TO THE NFL.

THE ARROGANCE OF THE NFL HAS NO PEER.

WAKE UP SMALLER VENUES, YOUR TEAM IS ON THE BLOCK, TOO.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY...

June 29, 2008  10:36 AM ET

Wow, what a negative indictment of the NFL.

I read it twice to find a point to argue. Haven't found one yet.

Darn, I must have missed you last year at FedEx field. I do have to correct you on one thing. It's $125 for nose bleed seats.

June 29, 2008  10:44 AM ET

I agree, Tell it Like it is...unfortunately, there is nothing in there that I disagree with......

June 29, 2008  10:56 AM ET

One other thing I forgot to correct you on. It's $6.00 for watered down water.
Great post.

Goodell is a real beauty...

First he prances around like a prophet because he "noticed" some disciplinary issues in the ranks of the players.....

He saw no reason to retain ANY evidentiary material involving Patriot cheating.....

He brands the CBA the owners wanted as "unfair" to ownership and thinks rookie salaries are out of control and now wants the players to resolve the issue rather than blaming the owners that pay those salaries....

Now, suddenly, if the home team starts playing home games in OTHER cities it is really about making for a better fan experience back there in the home city. It's good for the fans!

Why isn't this guy in the White House? Or at least driving a sales route for Mr Hainey? He sounds like a perfect fit in both jobs!

June 29, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Isn't the CFL doing well?
Do they really need the NFL?
I guess they're right,
only time will tell.

June 29, 2008  12:41 PM ET

It's only eight games people and if you are from Buffalo you are on the Canadian boarder, so quit crying, oh an it is over FIVE seasons.

June 29, 2008  12:45 PM ET

Goodell is Mr. Hainey, I left that out!!!

June 29, 2008  01:00 PM ET

Well if buffalo doesnt move to Toronto then expect another team to relocate to Toronto. The market is too big and would generate alot of revenue and would become on of the bigger spending teams in the NFL. Being from Canada i would love to have an NFL team around but i do feel bad for the Bills fans because it will hurt their franchise as well. Its a lose lose situation for the Bills and their fans.

June 29, 2008  02:03 PM ET

Don't get mad, but if that happened...they would end up like the NBAs Toronto Huskies(lasted one season), Vancouver Grizzlies (Now in Memphis), and the Toronto Raptors ( Not many Americans enjoy the area, and Chris Bosh will eventually leave).
The NFL is Americas game. Keep it in America Roger. Keep it in America NFL.

June 29, 2008  02:04 PM ET

The CFL (aka, Chaos on a very long, very wide gridiron with not-ready-for-primetime players named "Ian," "Gram," and "Gord") must be ti ts up if Toronto is courting a team. (Good riddance! What a sham.) It makes sense to give Ontario a team, but an expansion one. The people of Buffalo have put in too much to have their team move out, especially so near to them. In fact, a consortium of Buffalonians should buy the franchise and then go public in Buffalo with it, the way they did in GB. Give Toronto an expansion franchise, Rodge.

I personally loved Canada - well, the women at least. Some of the most beautiful women in the world there and their morals are like Sweden's.

June 29, 2008  02:48 PM ET

when I see that picture of Goodell it looks like he's singing "Only You".

June 29, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Wow, I would be upset if the moved the Dallas Cowboys to Mexico city for 8 games

June 29, 2008  04:37 PM ET

POINT THE MISSLES NORTH!!!!!

June 29, 2008  05:56 PM ET

They are not going to move to Toronto. This is all about boosting revenues for a smaller franchise. The new owners who won't take over until the present owner dies had to give assurance that they will not move the team after taking over as a condition of purchase.

Hey pw, since the exchange is pretty much at par and expected to stay there for the near to mid future (we have a lot of this nice thing called "oil" which apparently is getting expensive around the world and makes our dollar worth something) I don't think the exchange rate is anything to worry about anymore.

The bad part of this is that crook, Ted Rogers, trying to sell Bills tix for 5 to 10 times the price of what they'd be in Buffalo, even for preseason. I'm from the outskirts of Toronto and I'll be dead before I go watch one of those games. An added bonus, Toronto and Ontario laws will likely make tailgating illegal (the alcohol part anyways). Keep your bills tickets toronto. I'll drive down to Ford Field and catch my beloved Bears play for good value over the overpriced BS, they're trying to sell in T.O. anyday.
