Why Phils shouldn't trade Victorino

Other rumblings of late have connected the Phils with lefty reliever Brian Fuentes (who has many suitors) and starters ranging from the unlikely (C.C. Sabathia) to the risky (including A.J. Burnett, who is often hurt). The primary problem and reason to get nervous? The pricetag if it includes outfielder Shane Victorino, a critical and underrated piece of the Phillies lineup, both on offense and defense. Remember the old saying about robbing from Peter to pay Paul? The Phils might seriously regret trading the scrappy Victorino, at least until the offseason, when his roster spot can be more appropriately filled. So why the temptation to add a pitcher, particularly a starter? It begins with Brett Myers' struggles, which may have reached rock bottom with Friday night's third-inning exit in Texas. It continues with Adam Eaton, whose two wins are underwhelming at this stage in the season.

It really depends on what you can get for the guy. Unfortunately the phils have no farm system prospects to offer as trade bait so the best they can do is offer a guy like Shane for a fragile risk like Burnett. Although I have to agree its getting really bad pitching wise and Burnett would be an upgrade.

Better try to keep Victorino. I know you need pitching help, but he's a keeper.

The Phils problems are that their prospects are all at the Single A and Double A level....Teams nowadays want Triple A/major league level ready talent in return....Ed Wade stripped this club bare in his final two years with stupid trades and regrettable moves....

Brett Myers is a headcase....always has been...always will be....It may be time to part ways with him....Bring in someone new....someone who can win more the 12-14 games in a season....

Adam Eaton...gotta live with that stupid contract one more season....even though he hasn't pitched THAT bad lately....he just can't get the run support...

VICTORINO MUST NOT GO DURING THE SEASON....

I can't see the Phils moving Victorino right now.......

What about Raul Ibanez and Erik Bedard for Victorino and a couple of the Philies top prospects? That would address the Philies starting pitching need as well as fill the hole left by Victorino being. The M's are rebuliding anyways and to me their rebuilding effort needs to start with becoming a better defensive club.

The Phils can not judge starting pitchers very well. Phils will end up with another Garcia if they trade Shane.

Shane covers so much ground in CF and some of LF - he makes the pitchers the Phils have better.

He can also handle a bat which other Phils can not do. If Charlie had a brain he'd have him bunt a lot more with runners on.
