Moss to buy NASCAR team

Posted: Monday June 30, 2008 05:01AM ET

Ten-year NFL veteran Randy Moss has purchased a majority interest in Morgan Dollar Motorsports and plans to begin fielding entries in the Craftsman Truck Series with the July 19 race at Kentucky Speedway, The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com have learned. A formal announcement of the new venture is expected Thursday at Daytona International Speedway, sources said. The team, which would be called Randy Moss Motorsports, is expected to continue its long-standing relationship with Chevrolet and plans to enter several events this season with intentions of running two full-time Truck teams in 2009, the sources said. Morgan Dollar has used upstart Landon Cassill in five races so far this season in the No. 46 Chevrolets. Cassill and another Sprint Cup Series driver could be used in some events this season. Veteran Johnny Benson is a candidate for one truck next season, with the second truck likely to be split among several rookies. Moss, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, announced his intentions in April to get involved in the Truck series.

That's one way to integrate NECKCAR!! Good for you, Randy! I hope you've got some good business people that you can trust to run a venture of this magnitude.

Report Offensive Comment

Wow....fruit-energy drinks in WVA and now Nascar. At least he didnt in vest his money with the same people Mike McCrary did.

Report Offensive Comment

Let's flip this over the the NASCAR section of FN and see what the motorheads think!

Report Offensive Comment

I did a flip, localboy. Not one Randy Moss/Nascar story did I find. Guess they'll have to come here to comment.

Report Offensive Comment

Rednecks won't like Moss on pit road....

Report Offensive Comment

How will Randy Moss be paying for this team?

"Straight cash, hommie."

Report Offensive Comment

I say the Necks, (as the stick and ballers call it) will take his money. There have been several other transfers like Staubach and Brad Daughtery, (owned a truck team). A two truck team is pretty ambitious. Heard one of the sponsors will be Bratz.

How does any NFL'r get introduced, and then interested in NASCAR?

I thought there had to be a 4 tooth maximum to get into that "sport".

Randy will fit right in he'll be fishin' with the locals soon enough. and with that southern accent and all that cash those boys will love him.

Report Offensive Comment

Well, I hope he decides to drive it, too .... in the opposite direction!

Report Offensive Comment

So this is life after football Randy? Well, have fun now and make sure to drive a car when you retire ... go out in style.

Report Offensive Comment

Is he supposed to pay by credit BigBlue?!?!?...lol...What a lame!

Report Offensive Comment

Can he film the other Pit Crews practice runs the day before the race?

Report Offensive Comment

I don't see how this is going to be a good investment. Most teams don't make much in net income so surely he could have made more putting his money into something else.

Report Offensive Comment

He's gone country!!!!!!!!!!!!

Report Offensive Comment

The money is too extreme in NASCAR for him to have a team that can compete with the big boys. He'll be out in less than 3 years, if that.
