Lakers make Vujacic priority

The Lakers are well over the salary cap and cannot sign any big names on other teams, so they hope to retain two of their own players, Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf. Both are restricted free agents, meaning the Lakers can match any offer sheet they sign with another team. Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak recently said he would call Vujacic's agent immediately after free agency begins at 9 p.m. The Lakers also will try to keep Turiaf but are willing to spend more money to bring back Vujacic, who might receive a payday of close to $5 million a year.

wait till he gets his dignity back...oh wait...he's gotta wait till ray allen retires...never mind...they still have ray torturing him on tape...so his dignity is long gone...prove me wrong Vujavics

Accidentally put the s at the end...

June 30, 2008  08:34 AM ET

for me turiaf is more of a priority than vujacic.
Turiaf brings lots of enthusiasm and energy from the bench.
He should have been given more minutes in the finals! He plays good d, rebounds plenty, and will pop in the odd basket or two! A good back-up when gasol forgets to turn up on th edefensive end and needs waking up!

Vujacic is on ok guard, i dont expect there to be much interest in him1 he shoots far too much and misses alot of easy shots!
i think a good majority of NBA guards would score as many three's as he had if they took as many shots as he does!
Dont think the lakers would miss him that much if he left!

Nice "additions". Other teams in the West will make moves and improve their rosters, but LA is stuck in luxury tax. I don't expect LA to come out of west again next year.

June 30, 2008  09:19 AM ET

Keep Ronnie and trade Vujavic for a draft pick or something heck a new washing machine would be a plus. they can get a veteran to play for the minimum. I hear Spreewell is having problems feeding his kids and paying bills bet he will sign one year for the cheap!

June 30, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Dont talk rubbish!
What use would latrel Spreewell be? hehasnt played for three seasons!
And in his final year or two he was useless!
Plus im sure he would be a great addition to the dressing room morale!

Tell you what, whilst we look into bringing Spree back why dont we see if Kareem's busy next year, or even better Georgie Murason could clog up the middle!
Come back to earth vaughn9!

June 30, 2008  09:37 AM ET

I has both of them on my list of players the Lakers could live with out, mostly Vujacic

June 30, 2008  09:39 AM ET

LOL...his name should be Vagi-itch

June 30, 2008  09:44 AM ET

it was sarcasm ashhackett. don't take things too serious it is truth and RUMOR here.

June 30, 2008  09:46 AM ET

look at my avitar, are you really taking this stuff seriously?

June 30, 2008  09:50 AM ET

priority ?
Hmmmmm......a back-up role player is priority ?

Maybe you should consider getting some toughness up front a priority

June 30, 2008  09:54 AM ET

The guy played as well as his role was, and honestly, he was the only one out there not afraid to take a shot when everyone else was passing the ball to Kobe.

June 30, 2008  10:10 AM ET

Sign "The Machine" and somehow get rid of Walton & Radmanovic.

June 30, 2008  10:19 AM ET

That guy got schooled the whole NBA finals...if you put a priority to re-sign him then I feel sorry for the Lakers

June 30, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Turiaf is someone to keep. I could care less if Vujacic walks. I'm not a fan of his game.

June 30, 2008  10:24 AM ET

I'm not sure why he would be priority.....to me, he is an average role player with the ability to hit some 3's. His defense was horrible in the playoffs, and he really isn't good enough to be a starter on a team with Championship aspirations.

June 30, 2008  10:41 AM ET

I would make Vagisil priority 1 and No neck Turiaf 2.... No cap, sure why not!? Who do you think is to blame.
I am happy to report that we IS all happy to see Ko-me NOT win a ring. He wont win one ever again.

June 30, 2008  10:56 AM ET

We shall see, I is the man

June 30, 2008  11:04 AM ET

Turiaf and Vujacic are just pieces. Kupcake's priority should be to persue the trade for Artest. The team can't afford to go back to war with Odom.

This was the team they wanted for next year. They were built to make a run next season. They fell into the finals this year. They aren't doing anything that they weren't already planning to do. This is smoke and mirrors. Both will stay.
