Cubs in market for starting pitcher

The Cubs' rotation has taken its share of lumps since Carlos Zambrano went on the disabled list, leading to speculation that acquiring another starter is general manager Jim Hendry's highest priority in July. But Zambrano, who'll return Friday, said he doesn't care whether the Cubs get another starter. "Whatever they want to do," Zambrano said. "It's their decision, and Jim Hendry has been doing a good job for us. Whatever he has in mind for us is OK. We feel good with the team we have, and we have good chemistry. If he wants to bring another starting pitcher or another reliever in, anybody that can help this team, he's welcome.

Hey you can have one of the Pirates' stiffs. They are good for some batting practice.

June 30, 2008  08:53 AM ET

Cubs seem to be doing fine already.

June 30, 2008  09:39 AM ET

haven't they been in the Market for a World Series Title for 100 years now?

June 30, 2008  09:49 AM ET

I think adding to their rotation HAS to be their top priority, as it is their biggest weakness. They've been fine for the most part, but other than Z, they don't have a sure bet for the second half. Dempster may run out of gas, and Marquis is .....well...Marquis. The Cubs would be wise to bolster their rotation if they can do it.

June 30, 2008  10:02 AM ET

u nd everyother team in the league

June 30, 2008  10:12 AM ET

The Cubs are getting alot of coverage this year.

June 30, 2008  10:46 AM ET

Yeah they are.....but it's still June.......April May and June is historically when the Cubs win all of their pennants.

June 30, 2008  10:49 AM ET

The Cubs are getting the publicity because they're one of the best teams in baseball....

nobody expected it to really explode the way it did this year with all the comebacks and such.

a Starting pitcher wouldnt be such a bad idea...that obviously is taking one of our starters at the moment (marquis or gallagher) and demote them to the bullpen...if you get a reliever or two (which i think is better...quanitity of relievers is a problem..not our starting pitching)

nobody is really a weak link on that team and i think its Lilly if anybody...but your obviously not getting rid of him or demoting him...so i think marquis or gallagher is on the way down to the bullpen.

June 30, 2008  10:50 AM ET

We have enough to pitch out a CC Sabathia....

Felix Pie
Matt Murton
Mike Fontenot
Billy Petrick,
Ascaino
cmon the list is endless...we have hitting and pitching in return...and hey

surprise of the year..i think we'll resign him too

How is someone "on pace" to get onto the All-Star team? On pace? ****? When every team must have a representative there is NO pace. Besides, fans usually make the worst choices for voting anyhow.
