Ex-Lions coach Mariucci rips Millen
Posted: Monday June 30, 2008 05:17AM ET
Former Lions coach Steve Mariucci made some comments about his future as a coach, the Packers without Brett Favre and, most interestingly, about Matt Millen and the Lions in Saturday's edition of the Marquette Mining Journal. "Matt Millen has changed 58 coaches already, and he's now finally changing players," Mariucci said. "Sure I've stayed in touch with some of them and some of the coaches, and on occasion Bill Ford Jr. -- I respect the heck out of Bill, he'll take that team over some day." Mariucci also mentioned that he doesn't want to move his wife and kids around much anymore and if he were to return to coaching, it would probably be somewhere on the West coast. "The right situation may never present itself again," Mariucci said, "because we've decided as a family not to move anymore. We are back in northern California in our home and we settled back in. I've moved my wife 18 times, and I don't want to move again, nor does she. Our home base is going to be in the Bay Area. It's that simple."

Report Offensive CommentOh he's got them pretty eyes. But...another hold onto the great Walsh team creation of the 49ers. Go ahead and be a whiner.

Report Offensive CommentLady,
Such language so early in the morning!
The boy HAS been through some coaches, though, hasn't he?
Vaughn, I'm not so sure this isn't the equivalent of mailing a resume to Al Davis. There are only 2 teams in the Bay Area. "And I'm here and not leaving," says Mariucchi.

Report Offensive CommentI can't see hime wanting to coach the Raiders. I can't seen any coach really wanting that job. Hell the coach they have now isn't even wanted by the owner anymore. Al Davis always goes with the players and never supports the coach. why would an experienced playoff coach really want to coach there? The only team as bad is maybe Washington.

Report Offensive CommentMariucci was a SPINELESS coach. Unable to stand up to or for his players. The Niners' firing of George Seifert was the franchise's biggest mistake to date. Mariucci to the Raiders would be laughable.

Report Offensive CommentMariucci, get your behind to the back of the "How in the heck does Matt Millen still have his job complaints" line!

Report Offensive CommentMariucci is spineless because he wouldn't stand up for his players? I'm not sure if you're referring to his tenure with the 49ers or the Lions...but would any of his players on the Lions actually DESERVE to be stood up for?
BigBlue4You | 06/30/08, 08:43 AM
Report Offensive CommentWhat qualifications does this little carrot think he has? Except for some winning with the 49ers, it's all been downhill. He could have done much more with the Lions except he's a self-centered idiot. Why would an owner even think of hiring this annoying little underachiever as coach of an NFL team? Because he lives in the Bay Area? What does he have, Bill Walsh-itis? He's a blathering ninny hammer.

Report Offensive CommentIf this was his sending a resume then he deserves to be in purgatory in Oakland. If he signs a five year deal or so I say may this guy actually serve out the years no quiting or early outs. that would do it for me. I'd be happy knowing he has to actually look at Keith Richards...oops I mean AL Davis almost every day!!
