Av's moves depend on Sakic
With the NHL free-agency period set to open Tuesday at 10 a.m., Colorado today will announce the re-signings of defensemen John- Michael Liles and Adam Foote, who otherwise would have hit the open market. That eliminates some uncertainty, but the Avalanche's official position about captain Joe Sakic is that it doesn't expect to know if the veteran center will play next season or retire. Sakic's agent, Don Baizley, said the Avalanche star was expected to return to Colorado this weekend after a trip to Europe for the wedding of teammate Marek Svatos and a visit to his parents' native Croatia.

I'm surprised that the Ave's have not been tied to any Sundin rumours as of yet...Kind of makes sense when you think about it...

AV's got more problems than that.... Joe needs to give them an answer. I like the guy but hey...tomorrow is the madhouse...he needs to give them that respect.
Here we go for July 1...post up anytime. Figured we could get one thread going on the free agents and trades,....keeps us from having to post in 10-20 different threads.

He's waiting for Foppa! And, he's waiting to see what kind of money the idiotic owners are handing out this time around, although Joe Sakic's never been about just money, I'm sure he's still curious!

He'll be back for one more.
Good point Baun-ded! Sundin would fit right in Colorado if Sakic goes. How about cap space?

That and I just saw that the AV's resigned Foote and Liles...They signed Foote for 3 mil per for 2 years??? The guy was non existant in the playoffs...talk about pylons !!
Then they gave Liles 4 years @ 4 mil each...he was the 3 mil guy at most..they should have let Foote go..he's useless

Yup.....Sakic needs to give them an answer before tomorrow rolls around. Its the right thing to do. I doubt their GM wants to go the route of one Brian Burke here.

lets hope for colorado's sake he knows quick these older guys that are playing this retire or not retire game for too long hurt their team soooo bad . It always seems to be key players too. Their tease is tiresome . I think your right on sakic being classy enough to let them know early enough though.

Actually, it's nothing like that. Thank God Liles re-signed, and it's good Footer signed. Contrary to popular opinion, I really think that the longer Sakic waits, the more likely it is that he comes back. I couldn't imagine him hadicapping the team by waiting into free agency before retiring. I also think that the Avs will make a strong push for Markus Naslund. With the departure of Andrew Brunette, we'll need a winger to play with either Stastny or Sakic, more likely it would be a Naslund/Sakic/Wolski line.
