Miami recruit qualifies, FAU passes

Miami Northwestern offensive tackle Ben Jones said he qualified academically, leaving four Hurricanes recruits waiting to do so (safeties C.J. Odom and C.J. Holton, linebacker Antonio Harper, Northwestern offensive lineman Brandon Washington). . . . Because the financial guarantee wasn't big enough, FAU declined a chance to play at UM, which needs an '09 non-ACC opponent to round out Oklahoma, at UCF and at USF.

Your rhetoric bores me, vaughn. Sheer ignorance.

Miami will be fine in the long run. I like Coach Shannon and in time, the Canes will be back to where they once were.

J. HOVA: CATCH A FIRE

I like Shannon, too, but you really think this? There are many more teams in the ACC to contend with than before. I don't think Miami will ever again be that perennial powerhouse it once was because of this parity - Duke excepted.
(Even Wake woke up last year.)

Yes, I really do think this. There is a lot of talent in South Florida and all Miami has to do is to keep their fair share and hope that the talent produces.

Plus, the ACC has good but not outstanding teams so yes its possible for the Canes to put it all together and get back to that status.

the U is so close to having that swagger back. one big game, or play really, away

If you don't have a guy that can throw the ball...not good but you can overcome. If you don't have a guy that can catch the ball...you run it. If you don't have an offensive line that can protect...you're done! We'll see Miami...we'll see.

QB University needs a QB! The last two seasons were offesively pathetic due to horrible QB play. I know offensive coordinators changed repeadedly, but the bottom line is that many games were lost unnecessarily. It's a lot to ask of a first time starter, but will someone please step up and run the offense? Robert Marv, I'm pulling for you.

That is a very intellingent and accurate post. I couldn't agree more. QB is not an issue (we have three PHENOMENAL young ones), RB is not either, WR seems to be filled, and our D is going to be freakin phenomenal. Two problems...

1) We will be VERY young and inexperienced next year. So to hold expectations of going to the Swamp and winning and having a bust out dominant season next year is a but premature. Sure, it COULD happen, but it'll likely be until 09 that we truly return to the big time (and if Randy keeps recruiting SoFla the way he is, we will not only return to the bigtime, we'll return to the sheer dominance of college football like we've done for 20yrs now)... so be excited, but temper your expectations U Faithful.

2) As pointed our by mikrang, my much bigger concern next year than youth is the lack of OLine recruits. Without an OLine EVERYTHING falls apart (particularly with a young QB), and right now our OLine looks like our weakest link. That could have a huge impact on the 08 team.

We'll see indeed.
