Slipping Padres Look Like Sellers

"It's probably easier to see us as sellers at this point," Padres CEO Sandy Alderson acknowledged during Sunday's 9-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Starting pitcher Randy Wolf, a free agent at season's end, is almost certainly gone. Pitcher Greg Maddux, whose contract contains a no-trade clause, might be induced to move at age 42 for a meaningful role in one more pennant race. Outfielder Brian Giles, whose 2009 option has yet to be exercised, could also be made available should a contending club dangle the right bait. The Padres' most logical trading partner could be the Chicago Cubs, who have been running short of starters with Carlos Zambrano on the disabled list.

Let the Maddux back to the Cubs rumors begin!

June 30, 2008  03:52 PM ET

I hope the Yanks don't make a bid for Wolf. He is no good.

June 30, 2008  04:08 PM ET

I hope the Cards don't make a bid for either of them

As a Cubs fan, please let the Maddux back to the Cubs rumors be dead! That's probably too much to ask of the Chicago media. One of the Trib writers will take care of this in the morning.

Maddux should go to the Rays...give them somebody who actually pitched in the 80's instead of being born in the 80's

This individual obviously doesn't care for baseball. This person also obviously doesn't care for nuances such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, or even writing a sentence. Even spellcheck would be a nice addition to this guy's life.

Try picking up a book sometime. Try "Curious George." I don't think there's any baseball in it, either.

The Padres need to deal. Maddux, Wolf, Giles, and even Mr. Padre - Trevor Hoffman - could all help contenders. Edmonds is already helping the Cubbies.

Tell It Like It is - thanks for the interpretation......

My 3 year old has some Curious George books he may be willing to part with to help you out, YungWond3r

No problem. Go Cards!

June 30, 2008  06:08 PM ET

Maddux to the Braves.

June 30, 2008  06:16 PM ET

Well - looking at the Padres ''selling list" I probably would get better quality and a bargain at Wal-Mart !!!

June 30, 2008  06:52 PM ET

I hope the Dodgers are interested, we already had Maddux and Wolf and let them go elsewhere. There must be a reason for that. I think its because Wolf stinks and Maddux is , well not 20 anymore.

I'm sure the Pad's are more interested in helping themselves. I don't have a clue as to what they need, but at 32 wins, they must need alot.

June 30, 2008  07:16 PM ET

**** happened to this team?

June 30, 2008  07:38 PM ET

I meant to say hope the Dodgers AREN'T interested.........

Peavy be put on the block and tons of suitors will come calling.

Maddux looks old and tired.

Maddox ran out of gas in September last year. Will he do it again in the heat of a pennant race? Most of the old guys folded in September last year. Why trade to get them for the second half?
