Hawks won't let pair get away

The Hawks have been pointing to this day since October. They have made it clear that their top priority this summer was signing restricted free agents Josh Smith and Josh Childress, keeping them in Hawks uniforms. Hawks general manager Rick Sund has said repeatedly that the team intends to match any offers made to Smith and Childress. And as recently as last week's NBA draft he made it clear that the Hawks' priorities were to handle this business above all else.

JSmith will be kept but I don't know about Childress. Childress don't have enough game for a team to keep him. The Hawks must retain JSmith. He is a very athletic guy that has some offense and very good defense. JSmith will work on any team in the League.

JSmith could be compared to Amare Stoudemire w/ less offense, but he can really improve.

Smith's problem is he thinks he's a two guard. He drifts to the perimeter constantly and jacks up too many 3s. He's young and hopefully will "get it" at some point. Dude needs to be inside--not necessarily on the low post--but inside and around the paint. With his size, quickness, and explosion, he could dominate in the interior.

Chills isn't worth big money but is a great "team player" piece--a definite asset in a predominantly "me first" era.

If the Hawks don't resign Childress, I hear the Knicks are looking for a point a guard.

The Hawks, remember, pushed the Celtics to seven games in their first round series. Watch them next year.

Josh Smith has what they like to call "potential". Childress, less so. Resigning Smith should be a priority for them.

smith has more offense than people give him credit for and no one can hate on his defense they better resign him or maybe he can join the heat. lol

They MUST keep Josh Smith. As for Josh Childress, I'm not a big fan.

Josh Childress has a lot of raw talent. I believe in a different environment he would shine. I would love to see him in Dallas.
