Ga. Tech player charged with rape
Georgia Tech football player Jerrard Tarrant was arrested Friday and charged with rape and sodomy stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred in late April on the Tech campus. Tarrant, 19, was released Saturday on $40,000 bond. He has been suspended indefinitely from the Tech football team pending the outcome of the case, Yellow Jackets coach Paul Johnson said in a statement. The rape allegedly occurred at the Undergraduate Living Center, an on-campus dormitory, the report said. No weapons were used. Tarrant, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound redshirt freshman from Carrollton, emerged from spring practice as a potential starter at cornerback. He was competing with Mario Butler for the spot opposite Jahi Word-Daniels.
