Why McMurry wrecked Junior

Dale Earnhardt Jr. watched a solid day disappear when he was hit by Jamie McMurray in Sunday's Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Earnhardt Jr. was heading to pit road under green-flag conditions when he was slammed into and spun by McMurray. The Roush Fenway Racing driver said he was watching another car as he tried to make a pass and never saw the Hendrick Motorsports car slowing in front of him. "Certainly it's my fault," McMurray said. He says that he had not been told that Earnhardt Jr. was pitting. "Typically when guys pit like that the spotters all get together and wave their hands or what not and the spotter never said anything and I was looking at the 10 car [of Patrick Carpentier] on the outside," he said. "I was on the apron because that's where I'd been running all day. I didn't see Junior until I hit him."

He and spotter both messed up and made a nasty wreck. That incident could be Jamie's last stand.

Say what you want about McMurray and the incident....it was beautiful watching the 88 sliding down pit road. THANKS JAMIE!!!!

Thanks for not letting me down this morning, It's gonna be a amusing day!

July 1, 2008  08:55 AM ET

The dangers of riding that line......may want to reconsider that car setup next time Jaime.

July 1, 2008  09:07 AM ET

The funny thing is that wreck likely saved Juniors race. He would have gone at least one lap down by pitting. He stayed on the lead lap after being wrecked. The way other cars were beating and banging I don't think the race would have made it the extra green flag 20 laps he would have needed to possibly regain a top 10 spot.

Jaime and his team really messed up on that irregardless of if Junior waved or not.

I do what I can Flotsam....you should know that if they open the door for me to slap around the boy blunder I am gonna take it. This just proves that god is a NASCAR fan and he too hates Jr.

Simple case of HUA!

I like Harvick and Stewart. It would be my all time wet dream to see them merge and start a team together. The HAAS deal is good to get him back in a Chevy, bur if Harvick would drop his Nationwide team and start a Sprint team I think they could give Ricky the Crook a run for his money. Optimum would be Harvick, Stewart and Keselowski or Cale Gale

The drivers complained from Day-1 that the wing makes "the wave" much less effective....

July 1, 2008  09:39 AM ET

I've got no problem with any of those drivers, and think they would work well together, but do you think Brad K. is ready for a full time cup ride?
Now, tell the truth, Would you like to see Brad K. leave Jr. and made it big with some other team?, or you just think he is a good driver?

July 1, 2008  09:44 AM ET

i think McMurray is starting to but the pieces together and knows that he will soon be out of a job, since all of the other roush drivers have signed contracts and he is going to be the odd man out..

July 1, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Float, yeah I think he is that good of a driver. If it wasn't for the Buschwhackers I believe he would be the front runner for the Nationwide title. I enjoy watching the cup drivers in Nationwide but still feel they shouldn't be allowed to run in the series if that makes any sense. It doesn't really give the youngsters a chance to shine and go for the brass ring. Under the guidance of Stewart and Harvick he could become a real force in the Sprint series.

July 1, 2008  10:09 AM ET

I like watching the cup drivers too in nationwide, but also think they shouldn't race there either.
My understanding is that without the Cup drivers, Nationwide wouldn't bring in enough funds to survive.
I think if the Full time cup guys are gonna stay, pay em, but no points in the series.
and maybe limit the amount of entries that can race each year.
Does that make any sense?

July 1, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Everyone gets a **** moment once in there life.....I would say the same about Kyle Busch, but he's just a dumbass. Maybe Jamie and Kyle pounded a few before the race......

July 1, 2008  10:14 AM ET

It really was an honest mistake, those guys were running pretty goood ij the top 20 so I don't think Jamie wanted to pull a JPM.

Yep, slamming into a car from behind and taking them out is no big deal. And it doesn't require any skills for the hitting car either.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!! At least Harvick takes the blame when it is his fault and if someone pisses him off he does something about it instead of crying to the media and getting a helping hand from NASCAR. Harvick has integrity and the balls to take the heat instead of blaming everyone around him from Crew Chief to the Engine Shop.
