Freddy Garcia will throw for scouts in late July

Freddy Garcia will likely throw for scouts between July 20 and 24, according to his agent, Peter Greenberg. Garcia is currently working out in Miami and throwing off a mound at about 80% intensity, as he continues rehabilitating from shoulder surgery. The late-July timetable is intriguing, since baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is July 31 and Garcia figures to be an option for those teams - such as the Tigers - who would like to upgrade their starting rotation without trading away a top prospect. Greenberg said "more than a dozen teams" have shown interest. Detroit is one of the most interested parties.

let me clarify so that this doesnt get pulled by moderators ok ya' Nancy's!

TGR4LIFE, I think you have arrived from the shallow end of the gene pool. If Garcia can pitch, of course the tigers would want him just as 23 other teams would.

Spoken like a true ChiSux fan. Is this the new doll in the clubhouse Barrio? It's a referance to the Tigs consistant betting on pitchers to turn a corner that don't, hence the reason the referance eluded you. The pool might have been shallow, but it's no excuse for the lifeguard being off duty when your folks slipped in... Good luck with the full body waxing.

Or, the Tigers could keep bringing pitchers up from the minors who keep doing well for them.

TGR, I'm a Boston fan which in every way you can possibly imagine, trumps being a Tigers fan. Now, is there anything you want to say before I dismiss you like the silly person you must made yourself out to be?

July 1, 2008  12:46 PM ET

**** does a Boston fan have entitlement too? I mean besides chronic biching and moaning?

July 1, 2008  12:47 PM ET

Boston fans and Cubs fans are like alcoholics, they cannot help themselves, except the Boston fan is the MEAN Drunk, where the Cubs fan is more like that lovably uncle that gets loaded and is funny as hell.

I'm a Boston fan, but I gotta put a smackdown on Barrio. That's a stupid comment.

FMSD:

Lofton? Why waste the bones for him, when a perfectly good Benny Agbayani is just sttin' in the barn?

July 1, 2008  03:03 PM ET

I thought Lofton was playing this year under the alias "Juan Pierre?"

July 1, 2008  03:08 PM ET

No- Lofton is in Lakeland single A Tigers affiliate coaching Willis on how to be a fielder since the pitching scenario is obviously over...

FMSD
How true! but as long as we're above KC at the end of the season I might consider it a sucess as opposed to the way we started. And where KC is now I think that would make us 3rd.
