Marlins looking for relievers

To help bolster the bullpen, the Marlins are exploring options for a veteran reliever, specifically a right-hander since the team has an effective lefty in Renyel Pinto. Possible righty relievers include guys like David Weathers, Chad Bradford, LaTroy Hawkins, and Mike MacDougal. A veteran catcher also is on the team's radar. However, there are indications the Marlins are not serious about pursuing Paul Lo Duca, a Marlin in 2004-05, who is now with Washington. The Marlins have Minor League prospects that could be appealing to other clubs.

If only the 500 or so fans would show up to see this team.

The sun is about to set on the Marlins' run this year.

They should sign Kenny Lofton.

July 1, 2008  02:24 PM ET

Yes, this Kenny Lofton you speak of is known far and wide and the final piece to any championship puzzle.

July 1, 2008  03:05 PM ET

Yes, if the Patriots had signed Kenny Lofton, then 19-0 might have been a reality.

And if the Lakers had only signed Kenny Lofton, then the Celtics would still be stuck on 16.

The Rays have secretly stashed Kenny Lofton's remains in Tropicana Field. Thus, the best record in baseball.

If I were Cashman I'd take any offer for Hawkins.

July 1, 2008  03:51 PM ET

Couln't they use a Benji Molina? Wouldn't take much.

July 1, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Speaking of the Molina family, if Mr. Molina had used to discretion there would certainly not be so many mouths to feed. Think about it.

You're right?

Got to give the Marlins credit - hung around enough that a closer or reliever could get them into the playoffs !!!

Yoda.if you were keeping up with the news over the last few months, you would know the Marlins will be changing their name to Miami in 2011 when the new stadium opens.
