Which wrist did Wie hurt?
Michelle Wie was matched with four amateurs yesterday for the LPGA Championship pro-am tournament. She walked to her trainer, who massaged Wie's hand and fingers. The hand the trainer rubbed - the one with the tightly wrapped wrist - was her right one. In withdrawing from last week's tournament, Wie cited pain in her left wrist, which she hurt this year. Her publicist later explained that the golfer still feels chronic pain in her right wrist from a previous injury and confirmed that it was the left wrist that forced her to withdraw last week. He said a final decision would be made today on whether Wie would compete at this week's LPGA Championship.

More of the same from Team Wie, I guess... she has become a non-story.

Ferd Lewis of the Honolulu Advertiser says Wie's game is "mired in a bad lie". And there are so many lies to choose from...

I agree Wie should focus on the LPGA. But she's gotta find her swing again. It's awful watching her klutz around.

The girl is 17 years old. Imagine all the pressure she's under. Her parents, the media, and the public should just lay off her and allow her to play and figure this out without so much scrutiny.

Michelle was practicing on Saturday? The LPGA wants explanations, and Annika isn't happy either...
"Along with public criticism from Sorenstam and private skepticism from a host of others, she was further rattled when LPGA Tour commissioner Carolyn Bivens spoke to her camp about her behavior in the Ginn pro-am."
???I think it was very insulting because I tried my best,??? Michelle Wie said. ???It???s my sixth year out here, and I played in numerous pro-ams, and I think it???s ridiculous to make any false accusations about me. I just hope she gets better information.???

"Parents have an obligation to their children to help them develop their talents. They???re free to cash in on them when they turn 18, but that should never be a parent???s goal. B.J. Wie should have recognized that Michelle is his daughter, not his retirement fund."

It's sad, there's pressure, and so on. However, she is quickly becoming a footnote in golf. For all the success that Nike realized when they banked on Tiger in 96, they are probably realizing an equal amount of disappointment in their gamble on Wie. She has not been allowed to develop, physically or mentally, and her handlers give us the impression that, no matter what, she will not go through a developmental tour process, or even the LPGA. Instead, she will play in a few LPGA events, and rely mostly on getting exemptions into PGA events. But the payoff is minimal; the novelty and the crowd she draws are quickly dissapating.

It's just one screw up after another for the Wie clan. This isn't going to end nicely.

Michelle Wie's folly has been that she's been too arrogant. Her claim that she wants to play against the best players in the world which is why she wants to compete regularly on the PGA Tour is an insult to the professional women who compete on the LPGA Tour.
She can't even win a tournament on the LPGA Tour... and yet she's clamoring for better competition on the PGA Tour? Aside from some victories she had as an amateur (and honestly they were impressive victories when she won them) earlier in her career - she's not done anything to warrant all of the hype that she's been given.
Instead of trying to milk the limelight and trying to play in whatever tournaments she can get a sponsor's exemption for... she should take some time off to focus on her fundamentals and then come back and really show us what she's capable of. It's nice to be able to play a variety of competition and get experience but what does coming in second to last or shooting an 86 do for her confidence or psyche?
5 years ago, Michelle was a child prodigy taking the golf world by storm. Now at age 17, she's just another player who struggles to make the cut against a field of amateurs and who has never won a tournament.
For all of my comments above, I still feel that Michelle can become a very good golfer. She's only 17 and has the ability to play really good golf. But she really does need to focus on what's best for her as a person and a golfer... Is it better to keep competing against top shelf competition and not making the cut or coming in near the rear of the field best for her or is it better to focus on working on her overall game to make sure that she'll be competitive against any field or course she plays against?
Maybe we should ask Nike... after all, they're the ones who gave her $10 million.

Well... look at it this way... we now have a new catch phrase.
If someone quits something, we can say that they took the "Wieasy" way out.

Wie does not deserve to be out there. To quit on one day and come out the next day does smell like she quit to keep from being banned for the year. As far as pressure, look at Tiger Woods when he came out, and look at Morgan Pressel. They are handling it. Even Morgan won the other week and was #7 on the money list (4 Jun). If they can handle it, then so should she. Besides I always thought Pressel would be the better player anyway (even if she did usually end up lower that Wie when they played the same tournaments) and it looks like that will pan out. Until she gets rid of her family as her manager and caddie, etc, she will never amount to much other than a publicity stunt (and that is slowly going away).
On a side note, Momo that was hilarious!!

Looks like Wie shot an 83 today and may not come back tomorrow. Good planning ahead and icing the wrist in the public eye so she can avoid being bumped off the LPGA tour for the remainder of the season again since I am sure her "manager" does not want to lose the chance of making more cash.

Before we feel bad for Ms. Wie, let's put one thing in perspective. In 2006, she earned over $20 mil, mostly from endorsements. Who is laughing at whom?
