Agent: Davis to sign with Clippers

In a move that shakes the landscape of an already deep Western Conference, the Clippers reached agreement on a contract with All-Star point guard Baron Davis on Tuesday, according to Davis' agent. The deal is expected to be signed for five years and $65 million once the NBA's moratorium period ends next week. "From a basketball standpoint, it's always been about winning for Baron," said Todd Ramasar, Davis' agent. "This presented a good opportunity to do that, to pair him with Chris Kaman and Elton Brand expected back." And Brand, indeed, is back. The All-Star power forward who opted out of his contract a day earlier for free agency is expected to reach an agreement with the Clippers on a new multiyear deal, possibly as soon as today.

Clippers spend money to sign a free agent? what next, Arod hitting with a man on base? Mark Cuban clips a coupon? My Rangers keep a good young pitcher?

Go Clippers! Steal some of the spotlight from Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant.

I like this. If their bigs stay healthy, they will make a run for being the better team in LA, much less the conference.

Do they have enough to grab Magette and Brand back?

July 2, 2008  08:12 AM ET

Good move for the Clippers and also for BDiddy. His at home w/ 2 jobs. Directing and playing basketball.

July 2, 2008  08:48 AM ET

so much for wanting to go back to golden state.

July 2, 2008  09:00 AM ET

So happy for Baron Davis. The Clippers should be a really good team next year as long as they can keep Elton Brand. They should just let Maggette go.

July 2, 2008  09:09 AM ET

baron and brand.... Maggette will be gone.
PG- Baron
SG- Mobley and Gordan
SF- Tim Thomas
PF- Brand and Thornton
C- Kaman

Still the second best team in the building.

With that said, it's a good move on the Clippers part to at least move towards respectability. I'm not so sure that they are a top 4 team in the West, but this team should be a playoff team for the next couple of years.

July 2, 2008  09:16 AM ET

Gotta give the Clips credit for trying but neither Davis nor Brand are known as the healthiest guys.

July 2, 2008  09:32 AM ET

Wow BDavis and Eric Gordon will be one hella scoring backcourt. I like it.

July 2, 2008  09:35 AM ET

Baron Davis is certainly an improvement over Sam Cassell lol.

JTMeek...I really think Gordon will start at the two eventually and Thornton will start at the 3. He is not really a PF.

July 2, 2008  09:45 AM ET

"it's always been about winning for Baron"............but then he signs with the Clippers?

July 2, 2008  09:52 AM ET

The Clippers, we are talking about the Clippers here
First off, Davis is almost 30 and pretty good but not even an all star
Then anyone who knows the Clippers' history, they just are not going to
win, they are cursed or something.
Maybe an 8th seed in the west if they get lucky.

Baron Davis is a good point guard....But does he make your team a title contender? I don't think so....The clippers will sell more tickets...It may even make the playoffs. Will it win a round in the playoffs? I say no. Baron Davis is not that type of difference maker.

I think the Clipppers will definitely make the playoffs next year. It's not like the Warriors will be competing now.
