Hendrick Motorsports is expected to announce Friday at Daytona International Speedway that Mark Martin will drive its No. 5 Sprint Cup Series Chevrolet next season. Hendrick Motorsports issued a media advisory Tuesday that it would conduct a news conference Friday afternoon at the track to announce who will replace Casey Mears in the No. 5 car. Martin has been talking with Hendrick Motorsports about driving full time or part time for the team next year and will be part of the announcement, sources confirm. Although Martin has said in previous weeks he wanted to continue with a partial schedule, sources indicated he might run a full season for Hendrick.

I agree SVTJer! It will be very exciting to see what all unfolds next year at Hendrick.

July 2, 2008  09:57 AM ET

I freely admit that I wanted to see Tony Stewart in the 5 car in '09. However, if Mark Martin is going to be driving it, that'll be cool, too.

I've said it here before, I am a BIG Mark Martin fan. Seeing him race anywhere is great. Even for Hendrick. And I never thought I'd be saying that!

July 2, 2008  10:16 AM ET

As long as it gets him out of the sinking ship that is DEI.

July 2, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Shoot me now!! Who **** cares about Mark Martin anymore?!! Seriously Dude.. retire! Own a team! Stop taking up someone else's seat! I rather see a kid that deserves it than some has-been that can't win a championship!!

July 2, 2008  10:19 AM ET

this is good......if it's an afternoon race he will run like a demon....................he will want to get it over so he can make the early bird dinner...........................if its a night race he can nap before but hopefully not take his metamucil until the race is over.......................i am glad that aarp is fighting to keep the old folks in the limelight

Geez -- such poison spews from thy pie hole ... get a grip or dial in some anger management. Face it -- Mark Martin has forgot more about racin' then all the youngins' combined. Or is it JK you don't recognize class when you see it?

July 2, 2008  10:44 AM ET

I know class.. I know when someone needs to hang it up also! Like Dale Jarrett, he knew it was time. Some other drivers need to realize the same thing. There is too many folks out there that are still holding on to the past. It's 2008, not 1989. There's a new class of driver.

July 2, 2008  10:58 AM ET

This subject is dead.

Anybody know anything about the secret Aurora spy plane???

They say it hits Mach 20

July 2, 2008  11:02 AM ET

Except Mark Martin has proven he is still competitive.

July 2, 2008  11:06 AM ET

There's a new class of driver.

JKarlo21 | 07/02/08, 10:44 AM

Your right, There is a new CLASS of drivers,

And then there is KYLE- That would be NO CLASS.

July 2, 2008  11:18 AM ET

Mark Martin's hair dresser must be bored given that noggin the stubble cut. Race till you are eighty dude.

July 2, 2008  11:20 AM ET

One last shot.

July 2, 2008  11:24 AM ET

I dont like the hire. Go after Stewart. I know its alot of money but hell youd have the best team by far and youd have a guy that can drive anything that has wheels on it and would definatly help with setups. Martin is just a patch and why do that for a year because the new driver is going to have to adjust again next year/

July 2, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Not too surprising, at least we know where Tony isn't going.

July 2, 2008  12:17 PM ET

He should give it one more try and see what he can do.
